Roasted Stuffed Quail
I usually go to the store with a list, and I am on a mission. I zoom down the aisles, have the same routine, and I get in, get out, and get on with my life. I can be a little rigid in the grocery store, to the extent that I’m not always fun to shop with.
I am working on this. My boyfriend and I grocery shop together, and I’ll be honest, it hasn’t always been a pleasant experience for him. With all the aisle sprinting and speed shopping, I was taking the fun out of the food! These days, I try to be on my best behavior. I’m steadily learning that it’s okay to veer from the list, to do a little wandering, and pick up something that you’ve never tried before! I was trying to be more open this past Sunday, and said yes to Stuffed Quail that caught my boyfriend’s eye.
And boy, were we rewarded! I was a little unsure, but the quail came pre-stuffed. I wasn’t sure how to cook it, but a quick Pinterest search gave me a general idea. I decided to keep it simple, roast the quail, and serve it with asparagus.
The basic roasting in the oven turned out great. I roasted the quail on a baking sheet at 375F for 25 minutes, until the birds were golden on the outside, and heated through the center. Not fussing with the bird was definitely the way to go. Going with pre-stuffed quail was definitely a shortcut, but when trying new ingredients, I think that’s a totally reasonable decision to make. Here’s to trying new things!
