John Mayer and Rob Eaton to Form Dead, Inc.
- Dead & Company/DSO mashup to continue Grateful legacy
Dead & Company has disbanded in the wake of Bob Weir’s death but the core lineup will continue its mission in the rain and walks in the sunshine with a new group called John Mayer’s Grateful, Inc. featuring Rob Eaton.
Guitarist Mayer announced the new band in a March 31 post on Truth Social. The name change, he said, is homage to the late Weir, Dead & Company’s corporate ethos and Mayer’s love of tattoos.
“Grateful, Inc.,” Mayer wrote. “Get it?”
Eaton, who’s long played the Weir role in Dark Star Orchestra, will leave the band after its summer tour to play the Weir role in Dead, Inc., which will also include former Grateful Dead drummer Mickey Hart and players to be named later.
“GD, I miss Bobby,” Hart said in an exclusive interview with Sound Bites.
DSO will continue in some form, Eaton said. But his future is with Dead, Inc.
“I’m Grateful for the opportunity to take the songs for a little walk in the woods and keep Dead music alive,” he said in a statement on MyDrums&Space.
