The planet has faced climate change forever and humans' pollution might not be to blame, Republican U.S. Rep. Paul Ryan said Monday during a debate against his Democratic challenger. Ryan, favored to win re-election to his seat representing GOP-leaning southern Wisconsin, faced off against businessman Rob Zerban for an hourlong forum that touched on world events, domestic politics and the economy. One of the sharpest differences came when the moderator asked each candidate if he thought human activity is to blame for changes to the planet's climate.

Paul Ryan teamed up with Todd Akin to co-sponsor a personhood bill that would, in effect, criminalize many forms of birth control, as well as IVF.  He co-sponsored a bill to redefine rape and refers to rape as a "method of conception."  He co-sponsored the Protect Life/Let Women Die Act that would allow hospitals to refuse to perform a life-saving abortion on a dying woman. 

He also wrote this gem, in which he likens Roe v. Wade to Dred Scott.  And yes, that is a 1500+ word essay on reproductive rights that never once mentions women.

In Wisconsin's 1st district (where I live) Paul Ryan is running to keep his congressional seat in addition to being Mitt Romney's running mate. Rob Zerban is running against him, and he was on Reddit answering questions from users today.

One of the most prominent progressive groups in the country is launching a major voter outreach effort on behalf of 20 congressional campaigns, calling it the "crown jewel" of its election functions.

The Progressive Change Campaign Committee hopes to place one million phone calls to targeted voters through the effort, named "Call Out The Vote."

As Ryan seeks to win reelection to his seat in Wisconsin’s First Congressional District while he is trying to push the Romney-Ryan ticket to victory, he is finally encountering a formidable challenger in Rob Zerban after seven easy elections.

Zerban, a 44-year-old small businessman from Kenosha raised by a single mother on government assistance, has been sounding populist themes that seem to resonate strongly in a district beset by deindustrialization, falling wages, rising poverty, and widespread insecurity.
