My trial was Sunday night...

Wedding schmedding. This book isn't even fucking pretending about Robbie's wedding anymore.

“I didn’t want this to happen! If she leaves, I don’t have anyone.”

He edged to the stairway. “You’ve got your friends,” he said, head down and shoving the box with his foot across the plywood floor to the door.

“Friends you’ve made abundantly clear you don’t approve of.”

I don't know why Rachel cares so much what her shitty brother thinks.

“I’m moving out to the West Coast for a while. It’s not a big deal,” she said as I started to protest. “It’s time for a change, is all.”

Eyes squinting, I turned to Robbie. God! He looked too satisfied to live, leaning against the counter like that. “You… selfish brat,” I said, furious. He’d been trying to get her to move out there for years, and now he’d finally gotten his way.

Rachel: Robbie, you moved away and left me to deal with mom. You never face responsibilities in this family.

Also Rachel: Mom, how could you move to be closer to Robbie?!

My mind jerked back to my jealousy when I sat all night beside Marshal and listened to Robbie go on about Cindy, almost glowing. Why couldn’t I have some stability like that?

YOU'RE THE PROBLEM HERE, RACHEL.

“Yes, she does,” I said, depressed. Maybe I should look at it as if I hadn’t lost a brother, but had gained a sister.

Ri-i-i-i-ight.

Chapter 10 summary: Rachel and Marshall go over for the obligatory family dinner while Robbie's in town. After getting Marshall to distract Alice, Rachel asks Rob about the book she needs to help Pierce. Rob uses emotional guilt to make Rachel not do the thing again, but Rachel leverages that against “you left us. For seven years. I was the only one left to take care of OUR mother. You're just like our bio-dad.”

Finally, Rob goes into the attic to look for the book, but later tells Rachel that the box is gone. He's certain that it was just moved around at some point, and promises that he'll look for it again after Alice goes to sleep.

Edden calls just then to say that the banshee and baby were spotted at the mall to eat emotions. However, it clearly wasn't enough, and a riot broke out. He wants Rachel down there to help out, since again, the IS doesn't give a flying fuck about actually doing their goddamned jobs. And since Marshall drove Rachel there, he has to leave, too.

Oh, and Rob is getting married to his girlfriend, and gives them all tickets to Portland for the wedding. If anybody cares. (I don't, but in case this comes up again...)

Eyes squinting because of the bright sun as much as my sour mood, I recalled the look of anger on Robbie’s face when he saw that his stuff had been pawed through, and I decided that yup, I was going to crack it open and let the sun shine in.

Chapter 7 summary: Rachel goes to pick her brother, Robbie, up from the airport. She also has to break the news to him about their father... and who their bio-daddy is. He takes it about as well as you'd expect.

As they get some coffee, Rachel notices three werewolves tailing them. Robbie says that they've been following him for a while now, and also says that they practically strip-searched him and the whole nine yards. Rachel is just confused as to why they'd harass her brother when it was clear that they were after her.

They pick up Jenks, who'd been trying to get some seeds from a flower vendor, and head out.
