And that was very fine information to have indeed.
Chapter 32 summary: Trent gets all of them home. However, at the church, Jenks's kids tell him that they were attacked two days ago, but survived thanks to the one fairy, Belle, who remained behind. Jenks can't help but start an argument with Rachel over Belle being there, if only because Rachel knew the entire time. As did Ivy. He complains that they were at Disneyland while his family was being attacked. Nobody got hurt except for Belle, but she insists that she'll be fine.
Ivy takes off to do who-knows-what. This leaves Rachel alone with Trent (and baby Lucy, but she's just a baby and won't understand anything.) He says that Rachel is hella vulnerable now. There used to be laws that could at least cover her, but now that Rachel is literally nothing, he's asking for her to lay low for at least six months while he and David push laws through to protect her. Also, a bunch of people have been trying to sue her, which is news to Rachel.
As Trent goes to leave, Rachel can't help but feel like Trent was kind of hoping for some indication of interest from Rachel. He likes her, and he liked that kiss.
It was what I wanted. What I had always wanted. So why did it feel so empty?
Chapter 31 summary: We're in Rachel's head. It's like she's in a dream, where she's in her regular life, but things aren't quite right, but you don't question “strange things”, you know? Subconscious-Trent comes to her, and says that he needs to kiss her in order to complete the spell. And then subconscious turns into actual Trent, who looks like he's been sitting by her beside for days without taking care of himself. He says that the spell he used to separate her soul is very old, and that he isn't quite sure that he got the entire thing just right. BUT, he's certain that a kiss could bring her back. Rachel is reluctant, and cites “true love's kiss” like how it usually is in stories. But Trent says it doesn't have to be love, just a kiss. He also reassures her that it's in the privacy of Rachel's head, they'll be the only two who will see this.
So they kiss, and then Rachel comes to herself, only to realize that she's kissing Trent from her hospital bed. And Jenks is there, making a fuss over the kiss. Ivy is there, too, but she has more tact than that.
After Ivy and Jenks leave to go take care of an unknown something, Trent has to explain to Rachel what happened after she basically died. After Trent moved her soul to the bottle, Bis was holding it when Al came up. He was insanely upset over Rachel's apparent death, and wanted to blame Trent for having released Ku'Sox, and brought this on Rachel. However, Pierce seemed to have some sort of indication as to what was happening, and took responsibility for what had happened. Al dragged Pierce off again.
In the meantime, since the demons think that Rachel is dead, Trent put one of those anti-magic bracelets onto her. A very thick one, which is way worse than the ones that they used when they put Rachel into witch prison. He says that it's all his dad's fault that Rachel is like this. And he wants to give Rachel some choice in the matter once again. Says that with this, the demons will think that she's dead. She can still do earth magic, like she's always done, and interact with the ley lines “like humans can”. But no more demon magic, no more curses. Rachel thinks that this is a good idea and seems to be pretty happy, all things considered.
