Went to see Robert Hanke’s Lumière III last night at the Barbican Centre. The powerful lakers were used to display audio reactive patterns with a focus on geometrics shapes. The sound design was a little under polished but the overall effect of the show was very strong and actually had me a touch overwhelmed at points. There were moments of great tension which would die away after a few minutes to change into a more relaxed AV performance. These moments of relief were more favourable to my ears and eyes but would not have the same impact had they not succeeded the loud, booming minimalistic music and the flashing, hyper stimulating lasers.
