Book 1 of 2022
Before I start, I’ve read other peoples’ reviews on the book so let me point out something that seems to have been a big deal for other readers: This is not an authorized biography but a portion of the proceeds are being donated to the Nipsey Hussle estate & to the Neighborhood Nip Foundation.
Although this wasn’t an official biography, Robert Kenner did an excellent job compiling necessary contributions to the story from members of All Money In & others who worked closely with Hussle over the years. This book isn’t just about Nip though - it contains a good chunk of historical references regarding gang culture, race, politics, LAPD, hip-hop, etc. Honestly, if Nip had wrote this book himself, the history lessons mixed in would be a strategic move I would expected.
You didn’t have to be a fan to respect his grind, his success, & his vision. For anyone who maybe wasn’t a fan or doesn’t understand how someone with his affiliation could be so widely admired - I think this book could change their perspective of who he was. Getting to know his work ethic & how he strategically put together songs & compiled all of his music could change the way you listen to the music. Picking up on all the jewels he dropped is one thing but being able to visualize the story he walks you through on each release is another. The same goes for the vision he had for community & the moves he was making to buy back his block - this book gives it to you. It provides insight into his growth over the years, his connection to his Eritrean roots through trips back home with his father & Blacc Sam, & his view on family. There’s so much information. Highly recommend 4.5⭐️
Hayley Marshall & Robert Kenner manip.I was in the mood to make something. Enjoy.
The Confession Killer Not One Shred of Evidence Robert Kenner, Taki Oldham USA, 2019
Food, Inc. (2008) Directed by Robert Kenner
Truly must see documentary if you want to know how our food is made and whose in charge of the process. Food, Inc. highlights how corrupt the food industry is, the lobbies backing it, and the down-to-a-science way these companies manufacture food. This movie also points out how much the farmers of America (and I’m sure the world) are getting fucked over by the huge multinationals. The food in the western diet has become highly modified and the process of making it, mechanized. There is little regulation for health standards and that’s not just because it’s more profitable for companies to make low quality and addictive food, but also because of the revolving door between the food lobbies and the government bodies regulating the industry. In this age where we are cognizant that are government and society is corrupted, this is just another example we can point to of that fact.
