my top ten scary videos
i made a post like this yeeeears ago, and i thought it’d be fun to do again, because i found a new favorite tonight and wanted to share it
• CAROL by thelittlefears
Art project.
A pretty mild little video to start things out. Just a little unsettling when you really think deeply into it, like a creepy story a friend would tell you on a rainy day on the playground. This whole channel has become a weird kind of comfort watch for me. It’s an ancient archive of the best creepypasta readings ever recorded by humankind.
• THE CAT WITH HANDS by Robert Morgan
Last night as I slumbered I had a strange dream
Creepy stop motion about a creepy cat. Made by the guy behind the film “Stop Motion” apparently! I just learned that while making this post. I remember watching it over and over in middle school, just enthralled by its creepiness.
• THE RAT KING by thelittlefears
In German folklore, a rat king is considered an extremely bad omen.
A much, much scarier little fears video. The sound design is truly immaculate. Warning for images of dead animals.
• DA SHADOW by Alexanderthetitan
Embrace him.
Part of a series, I think, though I’m not sure which of the creator’s other videos are included. I think this one stands on its own, though. It’s so, so nightmarish to me. To this day it haunts me every time I look under my bed at night.
• UNEDITED FOOTAGE OF A BEAR by Alan Resnick
THIS IS MY SERMON
It’s well known, but I had to include it because it’s still one of the scariest things I’ve ever seen. A film that rewired my entire brain in high school and made me insufferable when I tried to force everybody else to watch it with me. I just wanted to see what other people thought when they saw it, because I felt like it was telling me something deeply, horrifically important that I wasn’t ready to hear. It feels like a horribly bad trip, which is exactly what it’s going for.
• ILLUSION OF BIAS by MindCBase
This could happen to anyone.
Warning for vomiting. This film is largely about the horror of nausea, which hits me really, really hard when I watch it now, even more so than when I first found it, since I have a bunch of weird unspecified stomach nonsense that’s come and gone over the years since. This film captures how it feels during a flareup with such frightening clarity. That’s not all it’s about, though. You really ought to watch it and see, if you have the stomach for it. (sorry)
• CREATURE IN THE DARK by Alexanderthetitan
Can you breathe?
Another film by the same creator as Da Shadow, but not part of the same series. They’re very prolific and not all of the films are winners in my mind, honestly, but the ones that hit, HIIIIT. This one is almost panic-inducing. I mentioned that the first one was nightmarish, but this one blows it out of the water. It feels so much like a stomach-churning fever dream.
• !!! by Product
The roses will take everything from you.
This animator is incredible. They’ve made some really captivating and horrifying films. Most of them are very, very triggering, going into topics of abuse and sexual assault, but they handle them with a lot of sensitivity and empathy, which helps a lot. Some of them are still too heavy for me, though. That’s why I picked this one, it’s a really good standalone piece that’s not triggering for me personally but still absolutely chilling. Warning for gore and violence, though.
• FILM INFERNO by Fake Documentary Q
“I think it’s time to open it…”
My new discovery from tonight that inspired me to make this list. This channel has made some of the most fascinating and intriguing horror I’ve ever seen, but this one in particular is the scariest thing I’ve seen in literal years. My heart was racing nonstop. Such a horrific ratcheting of tension and claustrophobic panic. It’s like if The Blair Witch Project was nothing but the scariest part at the end, stretched out for over 30 minutes and no less terrifying the entire time. This whole channel is worth checking out, honestly.
