Yuletide || Eleanor + Robert
Eleanor was sure that the gods they all worshipped did not exist. If they did and cared at all for the mortals who praised them, Eleanor was sure they would have blessed the Turner family by removing Robert Persimmons from their home and their lives.
Yet here he was, blathering on as the Turner sisters attempted to prepare for the children that would soon be coming by their home expecting treats in turn for their songs. She wasn’t listening, of course-- she rarely did when it came to anything Persimmons had to say.
While she felt extremely lucky that she was not stuck with Robert for the ridiculous tradition of escorts throughout Yuletide, she did know Cassandra had ended up as his unlucky partner. She could only imagine what a terrible time poor Cassandra was destined to have over the celebrations.
Eleanor decided she must do something about it... and perhaps she it might serve as a way to be rid of her own escort as well.
“Mr. Persimmons, you must try this!” Eleanor exclaimed, shoving a biscuit into his mouth so that he might stop talking for a moment. She was only mildly disappointed he didn’t choke.
“Is it not the greatest tragedy the gods decided we should not be paired together for this Yuldetide season?” Eleanor proclaimed with a sigh, collapsing into the chair next to Robert. She spotted Lucy’s wide eyes as she focused intently on the small parcels of sweets she was tying up with neat little bows. Next to her, Isabella was doing all she could to not laugh out loud.
“Instead I am paired with the Earl of Clarendon. Whatever am I to speak about to such a noble, wealthy, and well connected gentleman?” she asked, grabbing Robert’s arm. “What do I know of renovating parsonages and bestowing patronages? It is simply all he speaks of!”
Everything about this was an utter lie, of course. Eleanor had no idea if Charles Acton had a parsonage to renovate or a patronage to bestow-- however, neither did Robert.
