TREKMATCH! # 529 - TNG's "Peak Performance" vs 2003's High Tension
HIGH TENSION aka HAUTE TENSION
A woman is visiting her girlfriend's family but uh oh, a killer starts a killing and a terrorizing them! I'm gonna have to talk about the infamous twist so here's a SPOILER WARNING in case you don't know already, but the lead woman winds up being the killer in like a split personality situation. But does that mean she was just running around back and forth doing nothing all the times she was arming herself to stop the killer? Without the twist it's a forgettable by the numbers slasher flick but with the twist it's infuriating, but it was a law that from the release of the Sixth Sense in 1999 to about 2005 every movie had to have some left field twist.

STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION - "Peak Performance"
Riker gets to put together a little fantasy roster to take charge of a busted up old ship in a war game against the super advanced flagship of Starfleet, the Enterprise. Originally the ship he was gonna take command of was supposed to be a Constitution Refit (TOS movie Enterprise to the uninitiated) which woulda been cool for all the TOS vs TNG arguments, but they changed it to a Constellation Class (like Picard's old ship) to save money on FX.
GRADE: C+
Victory to Trek, so Trek is up 269-260!
TREKMATCH! # 256 - TNG's "Chain of Command" vs 1992's Innocent Blood
INNOCENT BLOOD
A vampire with a heart of gold (she only feeds on bad people) goes after the Pittsburgh mafia (that's a thing?) but accidentally turns the mob leader into a vampire. It, much like Landis' American Werewolf in London, balances humor and horror pretty well, so if you ever wanted to see Don Rickles as a vampire here's your chance!
GRADE: C+
STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION - "Chain Of Command"
The Cardassians may be developing a secret biological weapon, so who better to send on a covert mission than captain of Starfleet's flagship, his doctor, and his security chief? No offense but doesn't Starfleet have covert ops teams? So Picard gets kidnapped and tortured 1984 style and meanwhile the new Enterprise captain is kinda jerky. This is a two-parter, and the second part is great, but the first part sorta drags.

Victory to Trek, so Trek is up 130-126!
TREKMATCH! # 677 - TNG's "New Ground" vs 2014's A Good Marriage
A GOOD MARRIAGE
A couple celebrates their 25th anniversary, and everything is cool and happy and nice! Oh, what's that? This is based on a Stephen King joint? Yeah, the wife discovers her husband has been a BTK style serial killer for the whole time they've been together which in my opinion is a violation of trust or whatnot. Supposedly the real BTK killer's daughter got mad at this movie, but hey, notorious serial killer's daughter, maybe there's something else you should be mad about perhaps???
GRADE: D+
STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION - "New Ground"
While the Enterprise observes a space surfing experiment Worf's life is turned upside down whenever his mother brings back his son and says Worf has gotta actually be a father to him for once. Well that doesn't work out very well as we see in Deep Space Nine!

Victory to Trek, so Trek is up 343-334!
Stephen King is down to Trek 22-31
TREKMATCH! # 652 - TNG's "The Measure of a Man" vs 2014's Inherent Vice
INHERENT VICE
A hippie stoner private eye investigates the disappearance of a rich developer tied up with neo nazis, philanthropy, and a cult. It's kinda fun in a meandering sort of way but don't watch it on an app with commercials no matter what!
GRADE: C+
STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION - "The Measure of a Man"
Some dweeby Starfleet jerk shows up to declare Data property and disassemble him. Well, Jean Luc isn't gonna stand for that! Time for an interesting TV trial, not to be confused with a boring real life trial.
