"Pick out a star up there and just look at it," she said.

"Pick a dim one."

I did. I had one. I thought we were going to make a wish on it or something.

"Now really concentrate on it. Stare right at it," she said.

"The star goes away, doesn't it?"

"Yes," I said. "It does."

"See, you have to kind of look off to one side, not right at the star, if you want to hold it. Sometimes it helps to blink and start over."
