Lyrics from “A Smuggler's Song” by Rudyard Kipling
Robin Jeffrey & Tim Laycock - A Smuggler’s Song
If you wake at midnight, and hear a horse's feet, Don't go drawing back the blind, or looking in the street, Them that ask no questions isn't told a lie. Watch the wall my darling while the Gentlemen go by.
Five and twenty ponies, trotting through the dark - Brandy for the Parson, 'Baccy for the Clerk. Laces for a lady; letters for a spy, Watch the wall my darling while the Gentlemen go by!
If you meet King George's men, dressed in blue and red, You be careful what you say, and mindful what is said. If they call you “ pretty maid, ” and chuck you 'neath the chin, Don't you tell where no one is, nor yet where no one's been !
Five and twenty ponies, trotting through the dark - Brandy for the Parson, 'Baccy for the Clerk. Laces for a lady; letters for a spy, Watch the wall my darling while the Gentlemen go by!

Lonely is the Night by Robin Jeffrey
The Night #3
~ Action-packed, fast-paced, sizzling story from beginning to end ~ Couldn’t put it down ~
What I liked:
* That my wish came true and Caleb Beck is the main male character of his own book
* Caleb Beck: werewolf, ancient, rogue, loner, denless, mercenary, lethal, tired, on a quest for “the cure” to lycanthropy, intriguing, attracted to Violet
* Violet “Vi” Langdon: werewolf, manager of the Crescent Casino for Aces, turned over half-decade previously, insecure, threatened, intriguing backstory, rather attracted to Caleb
* The chemistry between Caleb & Vi and watching their relationship develop knowing that they are perfect with and for one another
* Saint: human, androgynous, protective, head of security at Crescent Casino, owes Violet a debt, good friend, hope this character ends up as a main character in a future book
* Dona Sangre’s farewell gift to Caleb that sent him to Las Vegas and what happens next
* That werewolves are strong, heal, and are similar to other books of the genre BUT they also suffer quite a bit each time they shift – perhaps not all want to live forever
* That I was able to dislike the bad guys – and that some of them were thwarted
* That the werewolves were nearly immortal BUT they still could be injured and require care – would like to see more of the werewolves in stories as they are presented in this series
* The plot, pacing, setting, and writing
* The way the book ends and wondering if perhaps there is another book to look forward to in the series.
What I didn’t like:
* Will Deacon: the alpha’s son, entitled, psychotic, ruthless, sadist(?), selfish, grasping, obsessed, annoying
* Thinking about a time when werewolves hunted and killed humans for food and sport
* Not knowing if this is the last book in the series or if there will (hopefully) be another one
Did I enjoy this book? Yes
Would I read more by this author? Yes

Werewolf-for-hire Caleb Beck came to Las Vegas chasing tales of a cure. But it may cost him more than he’s willing to lose - at least it will if Vi Langdon, head of the gambling arm of the Aces den, has anything to do with it. All Caleb has to do is keep Vi safe, and he’ll earn the cure he's desired for so long. Of course, it’s possible he may find something even more valuable in the cards…

Bloody is the Night by Robin Jeffrey
The Night #2
Interesting and intriguing addition to the series ~ Shaye and Andy have their work cut out for them to stay alive and take down a rogue werewolf…if they can
What I liked: * Shaye Cassidy: human, on her own on the street for the past decade, ran from a difficult past and everything she knew, has a “gift” that is not easy to live with, rather attracted to Andy
* Andy Vazquez: werewolf, sent to track down a rogue wolf, scoops up a witness to the rogue wolf’s kill, born-werewolf, had a rough time a year ago, rather attracted to Shaye
* Caleb Beck: denless wolf, without a “family”, centuries old, lethal, strong, alone, mercenary and/or consultant, intriguing, would like to read a story about him in the future
* The plot, pacing, setting, and writing
* The escape factor it provided today
* The Nameless den and being reminded of the part they played in the first book
* That Shaye’s “gift” proved an asset eventually
* Learning the back story of both main characters and the chemistry between them
* Being able to thoroughly dislike the rogue wolf and be happy that that thread of the story was tied off
* The billiards game and the bets placed by Shaye and Andy while playing
* Wondering what and if there will be overlap of the books in the series and if the main characters of the books will meet up at some point in the future
* Knowing that there is another book to look forward to.
* All of it really except…
What I didn’t like: * Who and what I was meant not to like
* Not knowing enough Spanish to understand all that was in the story
* Having to wait for the next book and not knowing how many books there will be in the series
Did I enjoy this book? Yes
Would I read more in this series? Yes

Unbeknownst to humans, the werewolves of the world live in tight knit gangs, or “dens”, for protection from outsiders – and each other. Every major metropolis has one; to belong to a den is to have a family for eternity. Shaye Cassidy, an unhoused human woman scraping by on the streets of Los Angeles, hasn’t had anything close to a family in over ten years. Shaye left her home under a cloud to chase the dream of a new start, a dream that quickly turned into a nightmare; a nightmare that grows even more twisted when Shaye witnesses a werewolf killing a fellow unhoused man. Andy Vasquez is a top member of Sangre Sagrada, second only to the den leader herself. When she tasks him with tracking down a werewolf gone rogue, someone who is killing humans for sport and risking the exposure of their world, Andy dedicates all his resources to the task. He couldn’t have predicted that the key to uncovering the identity of the rogue wolf would be a human woman, any more than he could have predicted that he would fall in love with her. Now, Andy must protect Shaye not just from the rogue wolf, but also from those within his den who wish she would disappear. Shaye has her own secrets, however, and in the city of angels, everyone has a devilish side.

Hungry is the Night by Robin Jeffrey
The Night #1
This paranormal romance with a bit of urban fantasy feel to it has werewolves with a bit different mythology than previous books I have read and has a plot that poses issues that were also an interesting surprise.
The story begins in Klamath Falls, Oregon with Grace Holtz working in a credit union after breaking away from her werewolf den in Seattle, Washington. The matriarch of her pack had big dynastic plans for Grace that were not in keeping with her own, so she left. Marcus Bowen, an important man from her past, surprises her after a long time apart and requests her help…a request that she ignores…until she can’t.
Great introduction to a new series that has me wanting to know what happens next. I enjoyed reading about how the change occurs for the werewolves, the differences and similarities they have to other werewolves I have read stories about, the bitten versus born differentiation and its impact on the characters, the twists and turns and surprises, being able to thoroughly dislike the bad guys while wishing bad things would happen to them, and the relationship between Grace and Marcus.
This is a new-to-me author that I would gladly read again and look forward to reading the next book in the series when it is available.
Thank you to NetGalley and Booksirens for the ARC – This is my honest review.

FROM EXCITING ROMANCE AUTHOR ROBIN JEFFREY Book one in The Night series. In Seattle, the past doesn’t stay buried – it comes back to bite you. The werewolves of the world live in tight knit gangs, or “dens”, for protection from outsiders – and each other. Every major metropolis has one; to belong to a den is to have a family for eternity. However, Grace Holtz, next in line to lead the Seattle den called The Nameless, has had enough of living under the crushing weight of her den’s expectations. Having fled to a small, rural town in southeast Oregon, her goal is to blend in and be as “normal” as possible for the rest of her unnaturally long life. But Marcus Bowen, a wolf from the UK-based Feóndulf den (and the closest thing Grace has ever had to a lover), has other plans. Reappearing thirty years after their affair came to an abrupt and bloody end, Marcus needs Grace. He needs her to return to Seattle and arrange an audience with Mama, the current leader of The Nameless and Grace’s estranged grandmother. The leader of the Feóndulf and his heir have both been brutally murdered, and Marcus suspects that Grace and Mama are next. Teaming up to hunt for the killer in the Emerald City, the pair slowly begin to realize their romance may not be as dead as they thought. However, as it becomes clear that the person they’re looking for holds secrets about both their dens, Marcus and Grace must grapple with competing loyalties, conflicting desires, and ultimately decide what matters more: their dens or each other.
