Tablapusher aka Robin Sukhadia talks about his Re:Dream and how music shaped that life. Check out the show he curated for the Pasadena Playhouse featuring South Asian musicians and poets examining connection to American Dream - this Tuesday, April 19th at the Pasadena Playhouse. Artists include Sadubas, Whalesound, Seti X, Neelanjana Banerjee & Tanzila Ahmed. 

His parent’s determination to leave India and be Americans led to an early life of instability, full of secrets after they came to the United States unauthorized. Growing up in a small hotel with no other person of color around, he fell into depression and shut the world out. Music became a light in his life and helped him through tough times, and it continues to keep him rooted to his Indian heritage through playing Tabla. Now, he works with a program that helps at-risk teens stay focused through exposure to the arts and looks to create a stable environment in order to allow his own son’s creative ambitions to flourish as well. “The American dream for me, right now, has to be focused on how do I take that talent that I have and do something meaningful with it. So, I feel lucky that that is where I am now, and if I could tell my dad and mom, you know, 25 years ago that this is where I would end up, I think they would be really excited to hear that,” Robin said.
