I kept wanting to say something about this game again but then forgot since I was buried in location research and could barely extricate myself long enough to poke away stamina when it got full. Well, I’ve forced myself to have a bit of a break now before writing up a meta post, so here goes.
Got apparition as I mentioned previously, and of course these two were the other ones who’d failed to bother with a license while at Hogwarts. *sigh* Speaking of which, we are definitely seeing more Tonks in Beyond. It makes sense since we both work at the Ministry (although I’m not convinced the ROCC is in the same location as the main Ministry building), and our professions are kind of related, but somehow I didn’t expect that. It’s pretty nice though!
However. The game appears to be buried in various errors. Not bugs, the game functions just fine, but as in like. Typos and lore errors. I mean, what. Beyond came out in 2023, I checked. Not smack in the middle of worst lockdown like some of the more error-filled TLSQs. So what’s their excuse? 🤬 Take the apparition here. The TLSQ is very explicit that you only sign up for the course after you start working, which explicitly happens in August. It is also very explicit that the course takes 12 weeks like normal. And yet, the next TLSQ after apparition somehow takes place in the first days of September at its latest……..and MC can supposedly already apparate.
Sloppy work, is all I’m saying. I hope that particular error doesn’t persist over in the main quests, that’d be hugely annoying.
Not sure how to feel about Ruby. She’s all over the place. But at least she’s offering a nice glimpse into Ilvermorny? We don’t get that often, and the tournament participants from Ilvermorny in HPMA fourth year aren’t friendly with the MC so we don’t really get…anything. (A criminally underused bunch of characters btw, ugh)
I ’love’ how we’re getting more insight to the lives of these new work friends than we ever did into the lives of most of our school friends. I mean, it’s great to know more about them actually! But at the same time it makes a really unfavorable comparison especially to the late-added school friends. I’ve barely met Callum, for example, but I already know not only his Hogwarts house, but the names of his sisters and from the way he speaks have deduced that he’s probably Scottish or something. That’s more than we’ve gotten for like, Jae or Badeea.
And Alanza! Questionable fashion choices aside, she’s quite a fascinating personality. I can’t help but remember that she quickly made friends with the Weird Sisters, which completely tracks with the background lore she drops in this school days nostalgia TLSQ. I’ve known people a bit like her in my time, she has the potential to go far if she keeps at it.
I have to say, I apparently missed screenshotting it, but before any of the above takes place there was that bit with just hanging around Diagon Alley with Penny…not only was it hilarious that she can’t manage her money (that’s so Penny actually! Image with friends counts for more than saving!), but I also noticed a bit of flyaway text that said the goblins had given the MC control of his family’s vault. It completely makes sense with my added backstory for Robin and his family, I’ve had that in my story outline for roughly this time period since ages ago, actually. But I’m surprised the game not only went in a direction where that’s a logical thing to do, but then actually put it in explicit canon! Idk, it just tickled me silly that this little tidbit of Robin’s life made it there.
