Robin Williams brought so many wonderful, hilarious and often heartbreaking characters to life. But one of my favorites and probably yours is Genie is Disney's Aladdin. On Tuesday night, the cast of the Broadway version led the audience in a sing-along of the song "Friend Like Me." (via Cast of Broadway's Aladdin Performs Touching Tribute to Robin Williams)
"No matter what people tell you, words and ideas can change the world."
-Robin Williams
My soul aches for the loss of Robin Williams. He gifted the world with his presence in a variety of roles, making us roll with laughter or tear up in bittersweet sadness. His voice built the childhoods of not only our generation, but the generations following through the immortal story of Aladdin.
"Do you hear it? Carpe. Hear it? Carpe. Carpe Diem. Seize the day boys. Make your lives extraordinary." -Mr. Robin Williams, who made his life extraordinary. You never know the demons people are battling. Rest in peace.
Okay but HO W. HOW DID HE DIE. I don't mean like I wanna know what happened or you know deets off the coroner's report I just mean legitimately HOW did the UNIVERSE allow this. So disappointed. What the hell.
RIP Robin Williams.
You taught me that being hyper and off the wall was something to be celebrated and not hidden. I was never afraid of being myself when I saw how amazing and wonderful letting out your inner insanity could be.
So to any of you tonight struggling with depression or feelings self hatred because you feel "different" then everybody else, please remember that the so called "freaks" and "black sheep" are the ones we remember the most, and I will never stop missing that wonderfully different man.
R.I.P Robin Williams
A couple months ago, at a Set List show at Nerdmelt, a guy walked in with his girlfriend, and asked when Reggie Watts was going on. Due to a schedule change, Reggie had to cancel about a week earlier. The change got posted/announced everywhere, including the venue site. The guy who walked in didn't know much about the show, but was upset about the change and despite an amazing lineup, he stormed out with his girlfriend. About a half hour later, Robin Williams unexpectedly dropped in for a set list. This is the footage from that night.
Lesson: Yes-anding in life can be as much fun as yes-anding onstage.
Btw, Robin (and Reggie) are also on the upcoming Set List series in the UK on Sky Atlantic this November.
