Seaside towns: Whitby and Robin Hood’s Bay

If you ever find yourself in the north of Yorkshire, Whitby and Robin Hood’s Bay are definitely worth a visit! Whitby offers fish and chips on every corner of it’s quaint little streets, but watch out for the hungry seagulls down by the waterfront. There are plenty of brightly coloured shops to look at and you can go for a round of sightseeing on a boat or try your luck at a spot of crab fishing. If you cross the bridge and follow the cobbled streets all the way up the hill, you’ll reach the Abbey and the church surrounded by tombstones. There’s no wonder the eerie Abbey ruins gave Bram Stoker some inspiration for “Dracula”. After all, it could have been Dracula’s holiday home by the sea. Even though the weather was a bit grey upon our visit, it made the pictures of the Abbey look even better. 

A very short drive further down the coast, will take you to Robin Hood’s Bay. This little seaside town is perched upon the cliffs with a fantastic view of the sea. Despite it’s size, there’s plenty to explore as the narrow streets take you all over the Bay. The houses are also quite narrow with beautiful architecture and seem to be well-kept. We spent a lot of time wandering through all the nooks and crannies taking pictures, before we ended up by the beach. It’s such a lovely little place to discover and I highly recommend it as part of a day trip!
