seriously now a small headcanon for their dynamic: vilicus on purpose never said 'I love you' to merely. like. ever. he always says something like 'I hate you' but in a way very vividly saying what he really means. i think the first time he would ever say that he would do it very randomly like idk while doing dinner. just imagine merelys face when the guy youve been in love with for over a decade finally says i love you without any tricks while cooking. and after who knows how many years of marriage.
