Tamagotchi in a Nintendo Direct? be still my heart 💗
Tamagotchi Plus Guidebook: Hanatchi & Robotchi
Perhaps one of the most obscure evil trios I’ve yet encountered, today I present the trio from 1982′s Cybot Robotchi ( サイボットロボッチ) (aka “Robby the Rascal”), a gag anime heavily inspired by Dr Slump. Introduced in episode 21 of the 39 episode series, Dr Highbrow quickly becomes the recurring antagonist as he schemes ways to capture the title character Robotchi, acquire riches, and in general just make things rotten for our main characters. Frequently sending out his henchwomen Sylvia (in the suit) and Nancy (with the afro) to do his dirty work, the three usually wind up in some form of giant robot that will explode before episode’s end. Much like any good trio, they bicker and squabble and trade barbs with each other, especially when a defeat usually leaves them stranded with only the hope the protagonists will get them home.
As you may have noticed, they are rare sort of evil trio, comprised of a male boss with two female goons! I think they may be the first, and they predate the more well known (but still relatively obscure) trio from Mon Colle Knights by nearly two decades. Further, Highbrow being a male trio boss like this even puts him before Professor Moriarty from 1984′s Sherlock Hound. Give these three a little applause!
Unfortunately, Cybot Robotchi episodes are incredibly hard to find in any good quality-- if you want to watch some, there’s a meager selection of the Italian dub uploaded to youtube, the 1985 “movie” edit (like Time Fighters for Time Bokan!) is in very low VHS upload too... and the first three episodes are fansubbed by the same NoraInuG who handled the rare few Yatterman and Time Bokan fansubs all those years ago! Sadly, those fansubbed episodes don’t contain Highbrow and his group, but you can see that there was originally a different trio of industry spies who played villain. They lack the charisma of Highbrow though, and it’s easy to see why they were shuffled out and replaced before long!
my sticker sheet designs are real now 🥺💕
