Near the end of Series 3, Sidney travels far from Grantchester to get away from Amanda, his duties at the church, and Leonard's expectations of him as a friend (which is to be a good one). Mrs. Maguire's old husband, that no-good Ronnie, had turned up out of nowhere, and stole her life savings. Sidney went North to get it back, and ends up in Romani camp, where Ronnie has been living a second life. Geordie comes after Sidney and tells him to face up to his responsibilities, but Sidney thinks Geordie is being a hypocrite, since Geordie is cheating on his wife with Margaret, Sidney's ex. 🥺
