Pilot Episode for "Th' Robust Worlds Show" starring Chris Rose.
We open on a massive concrete field speckled with bits of pastel color seeping out of cracks. A toxically orange sky hovers above while Robust Worlds is playing a plaintively joyous song in the midst of it all. He stops playing for a moment (though the music continues) and flashes a peace sign. With an exaggerated smile:
Robust Worlds (R.W.): WELCOME (in his impossibly angelic voice, delayed 1000x)
Cartoon dragons (3 or 4, whatever doesn't clutter the shot) coast in on flowers from the periphery as R.W. puts his head back down and proceeds to rip an impressive solo. The flowers are darting through the air in what resembles an air force evasive maneuvers routine. The dragons look thrilled, but perhaps a bit worried (they've clearly never flown this fast and recklessly). The flowers begin to slow just as they start to almost get too out of hand. Briefly, they pause mid air as the dragons face forward to show the viewers they have zippers on their bellies. The dragons unzip their tummies to reveal that they are actually lions wearing sunglasses. The solo escalates as the lions jump off the floating flowers and start tearing at the concrete with their claws. Woodland friends (bunnies, squirrels) slip out of the now larger cracks and begin to climb through the manes of the lions. The solo is really cooking now. As it is reaching its climax, an actual jet flies from behind at breakneck speed, rustling the hair of R.W., the lions, the petals of the flowers, and the ears of the bunnies (the squirrels are largely unaffected) with rainbow dust. The solo ends with the song. R.W. looks up, wipes the sweat from his brow, and smiles again. The animals applaud.
R.W.: Thanks guys! Should I do another?
Friends: Yeah!! (all together)
R.W.: Here goes... (looks in both directions, then, directly into the camera) SOMETHIN' (Same delay effect as before)
Friends: (Cheers, song starts)
R.W.: Wait! (Music Halts) I almost forgot my...Shades (puts sunglasses on, the lions nod in approval, song begins again and we switch into 3D)
Two woodland friends run up R.W.'s shoulders and put a funky headband on him as one of the cool lions give him a back massage. R.W. looks extremely relaxed. He continues to play this song through the rest of the episode (18 min) looking more and more comfortable. His quality of playing (excellent) reflects his comfort (extreme). All of the animals (us included) are sufficiently vibed and we fade to a deep lilac for the credits (white, Times New Roman).
Robust Worlds plays Saturday at the Ole Beck VFW, part of the first Weird Missoula monthly series. Bring your own lions.
