I received an advanced reader copy of The Swap from Gallery Books via NetGalley, in return for my honest opinion. The Swap by Robyn Harding is a story about the pull of a toxic friendship. Low is an awkward teen with no friends- her demeanor and home life make her a social outcast. Freya has been shunned by her social media followers and is trying to figure out how she fits into her new life. Low starts taking pottery lessons from Freya and is instantly enraptured by her. Both are hard up for friends and quickly take a liking to each other. Jamie and her husband, Brian, have recently moved to town and are hoping this slower pace of life will help Jamie become pregnant. Jamie owns a store that sells Freya’s pottery, soon Jamie, Freya and their husbands become friendly. One rambunctious night will change the marriage of both couples leaving everyone at odds. Recently spurned Low will stop at nothing to get her friendship with Freya back and soon finds herself becomes the middle-man between Freya and Jamie. This book just didn’t do it for me- the pace seemed to slow down in the second half of the book, but it could have been that I just wasn’t invested in any of the characters. I received an advanced reader copy of The Arrangement from Gallery, Pocket Books via NetGalley, in return for my honest opinion. The Arrangement by Robyn Harding is a story about love and deceit. Natalie Murphy is an art student, struggling to make ends meet. A friend introduces her to the idea of getting a sugar daddy – an older, wealthy man that will pay her for her companionship. Initially Natalie is opposed to the idea but she’s not sure she’ll be able to cover her portion of the rent again. Natalie meets Gabe online, after a few dates they have an arrangement- he’ll pay her a monthly fee to spend time with him. They develop feelings for one another but Gabe breaks it off before Natalie finds out that he was less than truthful on his online profile. Natalie doesn’t take it well and starts stalking Gabe’s family. Eventually Gabe’s deception catches up with him and someone ends up dead. I didn’t love this book, but it was able to keep my interest with a few surprises. I thought the second half of this book was better than the first half- apparently I prefer crazy to love and infatuation. The Arrangement is available today, July 30, 2019.
