a letter from my character to yours
----
Okay, so he'd never expected so many things to happen when he'd found his friend absolutely wasted in town that night but considering that the police coming to arrest her for public intoxication was probably more trouble than it was worth he picked her up and carried her back to his own home while talking as much as he could to distract her from yelling that she was being kidnapped by an Interpol agent.
Being attacked by a group of thieves on the way back didn't really help- thankfully he'd thought to take some of his Pokémon with him and his usual Steel-duo quickly wiped the floor with them, but he wasn't sure his drunken Rocket friend remembered just how terrible his writing abilities were when she'd loudly requested that he write a poem about their victory. Well, he did pull out a pen and paper when they'd finally reached his house and wrote a three-line poem in Unovan because it was the only language in which he had reasonable spelling abilities.
Trust will grow slowlyFor we both have our secretsDo not be afraid
He wasn't sure she understood a word of Unovan, but at least she seemed satisfied by his effort.
It took a while, but after several glasses of water and lots of prompting, he finally managed to get her to slip into his bed and sleep. He still wandered in and out of the bedroom a few times after that, with a couple bottles of water from the kitchen and a note on the nightstand which read 'mak sur you drink alot of watr' in the hopes that she would wake up and be sober enough to understand that it wasn't foreign gibberish and that she would do as written, since it helped reduce the hangover-effect and he didn't need her feeling like her head was being smashed in by a sledgehammer in the morning.
He was so exhausted that he fell asleep sitting against the bed.
The first conscious thing he was awake enough to remember was standing in the restroom and drying his hair off. According to what he'd been told when he finally loped down the stairs to the kitchen to make himself some coffee, he'd been poked awake, slurred odd sounds, been very reluctant to stand up, crawled under the bed in a failed attempt to sleep some more, and had a cup of water poured over his face which he'd wiped against his sleeve with the motivation of a Slowpoke. And now she was teasing him about the fact that he looked twice as hungover as she did. He sat at the table and buried his face in his sleeves as he felt the heat rise to his cheeks.
Letting her witness just how badly mornings affected him was only one of the things that made him wonder why he'd thought bringing her into his house had been a good idea.
"A.. wonderful friend..?" This entire time, she hadn’t considered him a friend. If anything, he was her favorite acquaintance. To step it up to ‘friend’ would mean there was a level of trust that she couldn’t… no, that she didn’t want to give.
'He said, “Mutual respect and platonic love, formed on the bonds of trust and support.” But…'
She took a long, deep breath.
'For what's to come… I'm going to need friends. And. That means I need to trust people.' She made a short nod. 'Yes. I'll trust him.'
"In that case! I love you, too. As a friend."
"I...um...I..." He wasn't really sure how to feel about that. He was kind of happy to know that it wasn't one-sided (he wouldn't have really minded if she didn't feel the same- they were probably seen as a very odd pair), but he was mostly embarrassed and the fact that he couldn't stop the blushing and that she was witnessing it and none of it was helping him.
"Th-Thank you..." he blurted eventually. But it was a terrible reply and he felt pathetic for not coming up with something less stupid to say.
"So, what's my prize?"
He stopped raking the leaves, looking up to blink at her. "Prize? Do you mean for coming to visit me so soon? I have thought that after the pie, you would avoid me for a week, at least," he chuckled, setting the rake down a little farther off. "Well, that is good, I suppose. I do not like to seem intimidating when I am not trying to be. Let's see..."
He pulled out a card from his pocket, horizontally tossing it in the Rocket grunt's direction for her to catch. "What does it say?"
She held it up for him to see.
"A song? For karaoke?" he asked, approaching her and giving the card another, closer look before she stowed it away. "It would seem so, yes. I suppose this shall be quite entertaining, hm? But first-"
He quickly leaned down and swept her off her feet with a grin, spinning on his heels to face the other way and using the small momentum to toss her into the large pile of leaves he'd just finished raking.
Worth it.
Rae spotted someone behind the extraordinarily adorable doppelganger. Someone with a very sharp knife. “Doppel… I suggest you move out of the way. Now.”
He blinked, confused, but did as requested and hopped aside, turning around to look-
Knife. Very sharp knife.
He felt the color drain from his face.
I want to know more about you.
He blinked, mildly surprised. “You resemble Team Rocket very much, do you not? For someone of a criminal group, it is very rare to find a person interested in knowing more. Most flee at the sight of me, after all,” he mused.
He watched her for a moment, quietly taking in everything about her that he could see. They stood in silence until a slight, smug smirk tugged at his lips.
"You are very interesting, and you have rendered me curious. However, you must know that I have my eye on you," he winked. "I suppose, we must start with proper introductions? I am an agent of Interpol, you may call me Looker," he grinned. "It is good to meet you!"
