Soulful Strut The Sound Dimensions: this 1969 studio 1 cover of the Young Holt classic was in the long tradition of Jamaican cover versions of Soul tunes. The Sound adimensions were a ritating cast of musicians who composed the house band for Coxsone Dodds Studio one. Among the musicians were Boris Gardiner, Ernest Raglan, Leroy Sibbles and the masterful Jackie Mittoo. Originally known as the Soul Vendors the Jackie Mittoo lead band created some@of the most famous late 60s and early 70s riddims including the classic Real Rock which became the musical bed for Musical Youths Pass The Dutchie and the classic Full Up riddim as well. The flip of this is the Booker T Classic is Time Is Tight another cool Jamaican rocsteady take on a soul classic. A lot if early Ska and Rocksteady was based on soul records like the classic Heptones version of Hip Hugger and Boris Gardiner Melting Pot. Booker T and The MGs were a big influence in JA in the 60s which somehow makes sense to me.
