Hi friends! I’m Erin, the person behind this @peopleofcalgary machine.

I’m originally from Toronto, but moved to Alberta when I finished my undergrad about 5 years ago. (5 years? Already? Jeeze). I work in oil and gas as a process engineer, and up until about 9 months ago I worked at a remote plant way up in NE Alberta - but now I’m a downtown regular!

Outside of work I usually share lots about training as a competitive powerlifter, or pictures of my cat Kilo. There’s also my wonderful boyfriend Christian, who’s currently working on his Doctorate of Physiotherapy in Melbourne. Yup, the one in Australia. 

After 5 years of running people of Calgary, I’ve decided to wind this account down. I’ve got lots on the go this week, but I’ll try to take some time and go back through some cool highlights from this account over the past 5 years!

After 5 years, @peopleofYYC is shutting down.

Thank you to all of the wonderful folks who have acted as curators, and to everyone who followed and engaged with the account. This project wouldn’t have been possible without you.

This isn’t a definite goodbye, it’s just a ‘maybe we’ll see you in a bit’ – the admin just needs to take a much needed break from the rocur life.

There may also be new #yyc rocur projects started in the weeks to come (I encourage it!) and information will be posted here as it’s found. In the meantime, @DoggosofYYC is our highly recommended follow.

Born and raised in small town Nova Scotia, Corinne moved to Calgary almost a decade ago after graduating with a Bachelor of Arts with a major in Journalism. Although she didn’t end up working in the journalism field, she does enjoy writing & social media.Her hobbies include: watching hockey, binge watching Netflix, reading and keeping up to date with anything pop culture related! And while you can take the girl out of the East Coast, you can’t take the East Coast out of the girl ;)

Week 258: Nathan

Nathan Woolridge is a Calgary-based journalist currently studying for his Bachelor of Communications, with a major in Journalism and a minor in Political Science. He has been published in the Calgary Journal and by the CBC. Nathan has a passion for journalism and media. He loves to be creative and has always had an entrepreneurial and marketing spirit. He started his first business before he was in high school and opened his first store when he was 16. Some of Nathan's hobbies currently include scrolling through Twitter, watching movies, and developing media and technology platforms.

Born and raised Calgarian (as was my dad – goes back to when there were like 11 people here who didn’t take the Bering land bridge) – working hard every day to make the world a safer place, I’m not happy if I don’t get my 12,000 steps in, I have more hobbies than I have time, I think I can build anything – I love Cooking, Camping, and the living aspects of nature (sorry geologists), too many years in school to not try and look for the big picture, and as for goals, always aim to be the second most sarcastic person in the room – and GO STAMPS GO #IsItJuneYet – did I mention BBQ, like real BBQ, like drive to Texas BBQ, like leave now?
