I stopped in to give Geoff Pieroway a hand assembling some rods for his shop and a few more for a youth group that he works with. These ones are all ready for glue and epoxy.

I finally finished my 8wt and loaded it up with backing & line. Took it out to the backyard for a couple of test casts and it is awesome! Thanks again to Geoff Pieroway for the blank and guides. Now for this snow to get lost and spring to get here.

Getting the guides wrapped up and picked up a sweet Lamson Guru 3 to hopefully help land a few willing participants. Figured since I had the lathe and the materials that I'd make a new handle with a little more beef to it than the slim black ones that the Guru's come with.

The love for fly fishing got me to try something new, Rod Building! These are two that I built over the last couple winters. I love working with my hands so this was an easy step to take. You can't beat the feeling of landing a fish on flies that you've tied and a rod that you've built from scratch. I must admit though, I'd rather be building rods than tying flies.

This morning, I finished building my first ice fishing rod! It was actually incredibly easy, and I'm regretting not having tried it sooner.

I ordered all the necessary thread, epoxies, drying motor, and the kit itself from mudhole.com, which has darn near everything you could possibly need for rod building.

This rod is going to be for catfish and trout, due to its heavier action. overall, it was a very simple build, but I'm quite proud of it since I made very few mistakes.

I've already ordered the parts for my next rod, which is going to be a bit more advanced. It'll be an ultralight panfish ice fishing rod, 36 inches long, with orange, blue, and green thread wraps. I'll let you know when it gets here!
