I have a Jess Mariano request if you’re up for it!
Could you write something like how Jess is with reader when he has a crush on her (he doesn’t think she’s interested/thinks she’s involved with someone else) She also has a crush on him but she doesn’t think he likes her back and thinks he’s into Rory :)
summary: your oblivious to his feelings and he's oblivious to yours.
a/n: forgive me for not posting a valentine's day fic so this is my official apology!!! takes place before valentine's day!!
walking down the street, you saw jess sitting next to rory chatting, shaking heads and smiling. you knew that rory hung out with jess that day because she would say things like, "funnily enough jess and I were talking about bouquets of roses. tacky isn't it?" you'd just hum, glancing at the window full of example bouquets before continuing your route home.
it had been weeks of this, your heart broke over and over again thinking of all the times that jess picked rory over you. they just all collected into a little folder and you'd open it and flick through it everytime you had some alone time laying in bed.
until one day, you sat at your vanity wrapping hair around rollers. you bought them one day at the mall when you thought jess would ask you out for valentine's day. how wrong were you. but, you still wanted to feel pretty. you rolled the last of your hair into your curlers. you smiled at your reflection, "im gonna be marilyn in a matter of minutes."
the ringing of the doorbell echoed, bursting your temporary bubble of glamour. you pad down the stairs, hesitant to answer the door in rollers and a robe. "mom?" you call out only to be met with silence. you grumble, "damn it." you hold the doorknob, pushing it down to reveal a tall brown haired boy.
"oh hello monroe, did you trip and fall into a 50s magazine?" jess quips, that stupid sexy smile curls his lips. no. you're mad! your eyebrows furrow, "what do you want?" you say it more flatly then it sounded in your head but its too late to soften. "hey, did i struck a nerve? were you going for a campbell look? need soda cans for that though, sweetheart." you roll your eyes, you push the door closed. "wait no!" jess puts his shoe to stop the door, "grouchy today, huh? or you got somewhere to be? like a judy garland movie?"
you huff, "i do actually." it just falls out of your mouth. your words make jess' face falter. the thrill of causing jess' stupid smug smirk to fall off his face felt too good to not continue. "I'm going on a date, kay? you know how long it takes to let rollers settle?" jess' face falls, "uh guess not." you nod triumphantly, shutting the door for good this time.
climbing up the stairs, you realise what did jess want? probably some tips on how to ask out rory. whatever. what ever he does isn't your business anymore.
days pass, the town gets in the spirit. pink rosy lights adorn every corner, fresh new bunches of flowers readily available, chocolates wrapped into red boxes. the air feels lighter with all the love in the air.
you wish you could be in on the love though.
you walk through the isles of doose's market, scanning all the luxurious. "browsing for the lucky guy, huh?" a voice behind you says. you whip around to see jess with his wide frame and baggy jeans. he looks stupidly hot for someone "getting groceries" you hum, "you here getting things for rory?"
you watch his eyebrows pinch in confusion, "rory? why would I buy for rory?" you feel like rolling your eyes so hard it reaches the back of your head. "oh come on," you reach for a box of chocolates, trying to be casual. "you think i dont see you two hanging out all the time? talking, laughing. and.. rory talks about you all the time." he lets out a humorless laugh, "really?" he looks around and back to you, "what does she say?"
you huff, "I mention something and it's always 'jess and I were talking about that earlier, what do you think?" you put the box back on the shelf. "its okay, jess."
you watch jess' lips curl into a smirk. your eyes narrow. you're angry. hurt, even and he's smiling? "you're stupid, you know that?" his hand rests on his jean pocket, visibly relaxing. "what?" you quietly say. "you're cute but stupid." he takes a step forward. "you think its a coincidence that rory always asks your thoughts on things? well, of course she's your friend but I asked her to." now your eyebrows pinch, "what?" his hand rubs his face, "sweetheart, I asked her to because I wanted to know what you liked because.." he swallowed before starting again, "because I was going to ask you out." he sighed, "had the whole thing planned got you dahlias because roses are tacky and got you nutty chocolate because the nuttier the better and got you crime and punishment because you've been meaning to expand your horizons."
you jaw falls. "really?" his arms fall aggressively as if to make a point, "yes! I even tried to ask you out. the night you told me you had a date. so I just bailed on the entire thing." now it was your turn to be exasperated. "I lied! I lied because I was mad at you for spending so much time with rory and I thought bragging would make you jealous. or wipe that stupid smirk of your face."
you must've stepped forward delivering your angry monologue because you felt his breath near your face. all at once you realised how close he was. he whispered, "you lied?" you nod, whispering back, "i thought you were in love with rory."
you crash your lips on his, all emotions surged through you and exited through your tongue. you were angry at him but so thrilled. his lips moved against yours, his palms reached for your hips pulling you flush against him. "it's you." he pecks your lips, "it's always been you."
you smile, gazing at his eyes. "so I won't be needing those cheap box of chocolates?" he shakes his head, with that smirk, "not when i'm around."
maybe you could join in on the love this year.
