even though he wanted to take his revenge for lucy, natsu didn't hold a big grudge against sabertooth in the first place. of course he didn't accept the way they treated their guild mates but when he fights against sting and rogue, he genuinely has fun and remembers the purpose of the gmg: to celebrate the guilds and see who is the strongest. he doesn't fight them with rage or with hatred, he fights them for fun because that's the purpose of the gmg. on the other hand, sting and rogue see their whole life through this fight because it's the final occasion for them to prove they're the strongest. the only value they've been taught is physical/magical strength, and if they win this fight, they can be fully confident in themselves because they don't have anything else to measure their value as a person. losing against natsu meant for their world to crumble.

half headcanon but jienma's grip on sabertooth members was so cruel. he kept brainwashing kids into being the strongest, the most egoistical and the most powerful just to crush other people and be seen as dominating. even though we only see minerva's past, it's easy to understand he's had this control over all of them. he taught them only cold and brutal strength could make them win respect from others.

isn't that why sting was surprised by natsu's behaviour overall? he thought someone as strong as natsu would be the same as what jienma had always told him. and when he discovered fairy tail's values, it warmed him up, especially since the person he admired the most wasn't like the representation of strength he had been taught.

same for yukino's interactions with lucy/mirajane. same for minerva's interactions with erza. same for rog's interactions with gajeel. almost wished it would have been the same between happy and lecter too!!

sabertooth quatuor is polyamorous. it just pop into my mind but i often see some fans debating on if sting likes yukino rather than minerva or rog or if rog likes sting rather than... guys wake up they all like each other. it's just so obvious to me.
