Violet Rowena Calloway (nee Rosenthal)

1904-1926

Violet was one of my favorite sims, and the 1910s heir. She was a brave nurse during The Great War and went on to be a midwife once the war ended. She married Roger Calloway in 1915 and nursed him back to health after a tragic accident during the war. Violet had twins in 1916 who were the light of her life. She enjoyed gardening and caring for her cats, chickens, and her sheep Ethel.

Violet is survived by her two children, Elodie and Charlie, her sister Sadie, 6 grandchildren , and many loving nieces and newphews.

She is preceded in death by her dear husband, Roger, her parents Everett and Rowena, and sisters Hazel and Carolina.

The Hyde's returned to Windenburg to attend Charlie and Nora's wedding. Before the ceremony they all spent the day together on the island. Everyone was thrilled to meet little Elsie, who seemed to adore them as well.

Elodie noticed that her father sat quite a lot, and Violet told her that there was a small infection near the sight of his amputated leg, causing him pain while walking. She sometimes forgot that her father only had one leg, and seeing him obviously in pain made her uneasy. She wasn't ready to lose her dad, not yet.

Nora and Charlie seemed in good spirits, and told everyone that they were moving to Henford after the wedding. Elodie and Tommy were excited, but Violet secretly worried about her and Roger being left alone. They were aging, and Roger's health wasn't good. Nevertheless, she hugged her son and daughter in law tight and wished them luck.

Roger Charles Calloway 1903-1923

Roger was the second son of Victoria and Theodore, born in 1903. He enlisted in the Great War in 1914, where while on leave he met the love of his life Violet Rosenthal. He was injured in a blast during the war, where Violet nursed him back to health. The two married in 1915 and were blessed with twins, Charlie and Elodie, the next year.

He is survived by his soulmate Violet, children Charlie and Elodie, granddaughter Elsie, and many loving extended family members.

Roger is preceded in death by his parents, older brother Edward, in laws Everett and Rowena, and brother-in-law Joseph Benowitz.

Dearest daughter and son,

Your father's health continues to decline. I am doing everything I can to fight the infection, but it does not seem to be working. A doctor came down and told us he didn't have long.

I am at a loss for what to do with myself. My mother wrote me a letter such as this when my father died, telling me she did not know who she was without him. I find myself relating to her more than ever.

I myself also age quicker than I would like. It is getting harder to keep up with the animals and gardens. We have lived in this house for so long I find it hard to leave it. Aunt Sadie has written asking us to come live with her in Britechester, and we have decided to go.

Violet had written news that Roger was getting worse. The infection was spreading and he had little time.

Elodie and Charlie had gotten on the first train to Britechester when they heard the news. As they walked into their father's room, he suddenly looked so weak. They had always viewed their father as unbreakable; a soldier, a warrior, a hero. Now, he looked like an ordinary man, a dying man.

He smiled softly to see his dear children, and grabbed Charlie's hand, making the two swear to take care of Violet. Charlie and Elodie both began to cry, and promised.

He looked to Violet, asking her if she remembered all those years ago in this same circumstance, when he had proposed. She laughed and said of course she remembered. He smiled up at her and uttered his last words:

"Thank you for saying yes."

Charles Everett Calloway married Nora Grace Taffert in early 1923 in the backyard of his childhood home.

Elodie came back to her parents home for Winterfest. She was happy to spend time with my family again, she hadn't realized how much she had missed them. She vowed to be around her parents more, they were getting up in age now and she didn't want to miss more precious moments.
