KING OF THE CONGO (1952), starring Buster Crabbe in his final role in a movie serial. It was also the last serial to feature a Tarzan-like protagonist.
It was based on the comic book Thun'da, King of the Congo, which had debuted earlier the same year. The character was created by Frank Frazetta, who drew the entire first issue. It is the only complete comic book Frazetta ever drew.
Unlike other jungle heroes of the time, Thun'da was originally set in a secluded part of Africa where prehistoric beasts and dinosaurs still roamed. When the editors asked Frazetta to remove the prehistoric elements, Frazetta refused and quit the book.
Subsequent issues had no dinosaurs, and Thun'da became like every other comic book jungle hero, indistinguishable from any of the others.
Sadly, the serial did not include any prehistoric elements, either. Seeing as Sam Katzman, "the cheapest man in Hollywood," produced it that's not really a surprise.
