They had set up this system years ago. With Raven’s habit of traipsing in and out of Rogue’s life, it was a way for them to connect when they needed it most. She used a burner phone to send the code word – mama bear – and made her way to the safehouse that only they knew about. It was their home, though rarely lived in.
She arrived first. It was a small apartment, towards the center of the city. So easy to overlook, and hidden in plain sight. Much like they themselves were. But the days of Mutants being underestimated were coming to a close. She had made that clear at the U.N. only hours ago.
Raven put the kettle on, had hot chocolate waiting when Rogue arrived, and she held out the mug. “Darling,” she breathed, brushing a hand along her cheek. “I had no doubts you’d make it here in one piece, but nevertheless, I’m impressed.” She smiled gently. “It’s happening, my love. All the sacrifices I’ve made, all the things I’ve done... It was for this. I’m sure you have questions,” she said, waving a hand in the air and taking a sip from her own mug. “But I hope you can see that now. I made a new world, and I made it for you.”
