Hi! Love your blog! I've wanted to make my own writeblr, but I have this terrible fear that someone will steal all my ideas, and I was wondering if you had any thoughts/advice on that?
Hello! This is how I felt starting out, and I know the fear, but don’t let it stop you from making a writeblr! Putting yourself out there = a chance to show your work, gain feedback, and thus, gain motivation!
To put it simply, I wouldn’t worry about getting any of your ideas stolen. Why?
- Because if someone did try to steal anything, they’d still have to write a whole book about it, put in the effort, and it wouldn’t be anything like yours in the end.
- The odds of getting your ideas stolen are slim to none (think of how big the writeblr community is? and how unlikely it is that someone would actually publish a stolen idea?)
- Your ideas will always be yours! Believe me, only you truly know what your story looks like and how it will play out in your head. Your characters, setting, writing style, etc. will always be specific to you, and no one can steal that.
- If you still find yourself worried of getting your writing stolen, you always have the option to post first draft excerpts only, in which case your writing will change overtime with editing anyways. This is what I do!
I hope this helps!
