❝ it should have been you. you hear me? you. not her. ❞ from scarface : )
tommy elliot doesn’t care much about the sad fates of others. fate laughed at him time and time again, after all, and it taught him plenty of lessons– bitter ones, painful ones, but lessons nonetheless. he learned to take care of himself. he learned to thrive. and if his survival comes at the expense of other peoples’ lives, well, that’s war, isn’t it. that’s all life is anymore for him: a never-ending personal war.
(he who wishes to fight must first count the cost. sun tzu, the art of war. he had it memorized by the time he was eight. mother made sure of that.)
he was always like this– or wasn’t he? it’s difficult to make sense of. it doesn’t cause him turmoil; he’s well beyond that now. he doesn’t regret, he doesn’t anguish, he doesn’t care for anyone or anything except his own ends. he feels no burden of responsibility for the hurt he knows he’s caused. nothing for killing his father; nothing for killing his mother. nothing for killing anyone else. nobody ever regretted or anguished or cared over him, after all.
but didn’t peyton riley care?
he goes back and forth on that a lot. he’d never tell her, because he promised if he ever saw her again he’d hurt her so bad–, but it’s true. on the one hand, he’s absolutely certain she would have betrayed him eventually: turned him in to the police, or maybe tried to kill him and keep the elliot fortune for herself. on the other hand, why would she? he thinks about that. he thinks about the motivations and the outcomes and the stakes, and the drop in his gut when he looked up from his mother’s corpse and saw peyton watching him, and the way his heart jumped a mile a minute when she said she would take care of it. she lied for him that day. she watched him kill his own mother and she didn’t bat an eye and she lied for him and she killed for him. and that moment, that split second when he realized she was no stranger to violence, that she would not ask him to be something he was not– that was the moment he knew they were doomed. there can be no trust between those who share secrets: there is always one or another who desires to be free of it, to no longer rely on the mercy of their partner. and, of course, it’s far easier for two people to keep a secret when one of them is dead.
(no one loves the man whom he fears. aristotle. he knew it by five.)
within five minutes of marla elliot’s tragic death, her lawyer had been murdered, and the will she had revised to leave tommy penniless was burning. within ten minutes, tommy called an ambulance and tearfully explained how marla had fallen and crushed her windpipe on the bedside table. within an hour, the happy couple were picking honeymoon destinations.
was that love? was that care? did he ever really feel anything for peyton, or was she just the first person to feel anything for him? he goes back and forth on that a lot.
he doesn’t regret leaving her. he doesn’t regret making them enemies. but the thought that he could be even a tiny bit responsible for the way she is now…
“plenty of things should have happened to me that didn’t.”
did he love her? does he still? could he ever? or was she just pretty and useful and lonely like he was? couldn’t she have been both? would they have been happy? or would they have ended up like their parents, drunk and shouting and dead too early because they deserved it? he wants to touch her face. pull her eyes to him. see what happens to her when he does. he’s always the surgeon, dissecting everything and everyone.
“should i apologize?” he tilts his head when he looks at her, takes in the familiar slope of her hair, the way her mouth sits, the color of her eyes. there’s nothing in his voice– it’s an honest question, but indifferent, even cruel. he could apologize, but would he mean it? and would she even believe him if he did?
(you know i love you. peyton riley, cafe date.)
“it wouldn’t change anything if i did.”

Stare.
“What kind of response is that?” God, she should be concerned with the transforming thing. She is concerned with the transforming thing. But she’s so used to weird shit happening, and she’s mostly floored by the words. “What the fuck? Are you propositioning me or trying to make a comeback?”
Her fingernail runs against the pages of her closed tome, considering what section of the book might hold some sort of appropriate curse to throw at this thing. Should she kill it? Is it after her, or is it some other phenomena outside of the Entity that stalks her?
“Just sounds like you haven’t had sex and you’re too socially inept to be normal and screw a hooker, so you do that half-joking shit in hopes someone’s going to say yes. Were you hoping I’d say yes, secretly, you dumb fucking incel?”
@roguesgalleried is gonna regret liking that post
Bane knew that Scandal would come eventually, but he hadn’t counted on it being so soon. He hadn’t even begun his plans to conquer Gotham yet, && here she was. The brute couldn’t allow himself to feel any guilt or compassion upon seeing her. He must move on from those days, make it so that remembering them did not spring any emotion. He was a king of men. He didn’t waste time on soldiers that could no longer battle for him.
“ Leave. N o w. ” The mammoth of a man warns, Venom pumping through him with the new implants to his brain. Tougher than before, something that wouldn’t be so easily cut as was his last mistake so many years ago. “ I will not hold back in a fight against you. You will be crushed under my fist, Scandal Savage. ”

life is strange at the best of times. when you’re a delusional supercriminal, it only gets stranger. things like evil alien supersoldiers from the planet krypton showing up and declaring themselves your new overlords, or robin coming back from the dead again? you just roll with it, because that’s the kind of thing that happens on a tuesday afternoon. but there are some things you just can’t take in stride-- things like somebody dying for real, or an old enemy deciding to turn the other cheek. for harley, answering the door to find peyton riley with a modest neckline and a big cardboard box in her arms is just a little too weird.
she looks at the box. looks at peyton. it’s strange to see her without the red sequins and that crummy dummy. what the hell is she even doing here, anyway?
“-- lemme guess. ya stuck a bomb in there an’ it’s gonna explode as soon as i open it.”
@roguesgalleried // RANDOM SENTENCE STARTERS (ACCEPTING)
Huh. Kilgrave has been told to smile only a few different times, and the experiences have been extremely different from one another. There’s Jessica. We all know how that went. There’s Harley. She tries to tickle it out of him if she has to because he gets embarrassed and he’s grouchy. Now there’s this one. She tells him to smile, and it’s not like the others. There’s a strange sensation in him, and it’s light and airy and comforting and he can’t help but smile. She really wants him to, huh? That’s flattering. He knows how that is, wanting that.
Smile for me.
He didn’t really plan to be here, but he really owes her his attention if she wants it, doesn’t he? And he would very much like to give it to her. He’s better than the date she had anyways. It’s not Kilgrave’s fault that the man, well, recognized him. Tried to warn waitstaff, Kilgrave heard it when the bastard was coming back from the bathroom. He wasn’t even doing anything wrong! He was going to get a seat, dine alone because he’s feeling broody, and maybe just make some wealthy looking asshole pay for it. Tip the waiter too.
But now his quiet evening has dissolved — had to tell that man to walk into traffic. He can’t let anyone recognize him and try to snitch like that, get authorities. JUST LET HIM LIVE. Kilgrave desperately wants to go under the radar once again, living peacefully as he can, doing better or something, whatever that means. This is his time. Not some loser with a righteous boner, trying to get him into trouble.
But he felt bad for his date, and — she’s very attractive, so he sauntered over to the table to (have someone else inevitably) pay for her meal in consolation. Oh, but she’s radiant, and his moody scowl isn’t warping his face anymore.
“Of course. My condolences for your date’s disappearance; to think someone would dine and dash on you like that.” He looks so very cordial and charming, how he carries himself, and it’s a wonder how such a vile person can manage that. The shift in his emotional state certainly helps him play the role. “I’m sure you would like someone to fill that seat he left open. I’m available right now. You’d like me to dine with you. Wouldn’t you?”
