PSA: Be Patient
If someone doesn’t respond to your IM, ask, thread, etc. immediately, do not snap at them, spam them, send anonymous hate, or make passive aggressive remarks or vague posts about it.
They could be busy, or maybe they don’t feel like answering you right away.
This is a hobby, not a paid job. No one owes you anything.
There is never any excuse for being rude.
Throwing a tantrum because someone didn’t respond fast enough for your liking is a great way to get yourself rightfully blocked.
Gentle reminders for roleplayers regarding blocking:
You are allowed to block people.
Blocking is not something that has to be a ‘last resort’ option.
There doesn’t have to be any reason beyond your not wanting their content on your dashboard or for them to be able to contact you for you to be allowed to block them.
Simply feeling uncomfortable with them and/or the content on their blog is a valid reason to block someone.
You don’t owe anyone an explanation as to why you chose to block someone. You are responsible for curating your online experience, and part of that is blacklisting, unfollowing, soft-blocking and hard blocking as necessary to ensure your dash is enjoyable for you to actually scroll.
If you find yourself blocked without warning or explanation?
You may feel hurt or confused by their choice, but that is not an excuse to sent hateful anonymous messages, attempt to circumvent their blocking by messaging them from another account, vague post, or post callouts.
Respect people’s right to refusal. Tumblr is a public communal space, and just like walking down the street or down the hall at a shopping mall, you are not entitled to interaction with every single person you pass by simply because you say hello to them.
Just because you reached out to them does not mean you are entitled to a reply. It can be especially difficult for neurodivergent people to say they’re not interested - many even start up interactions they’re really not feeling simply out of fear of how other people will react to their rejection, especially if they have had negative experiences regarding such in the past - so they may choose to block instead to enforce their boundaries.
PSA: Wheaton’s Law Needs To Apply To The RPC
What is Wheaton’s Law, you ask? Simply put:
Don’t Be A Dick.
This especially applies to those of you who send anonymous hate. If you can’t say it with your name attached, you shouldn’t be saying it at all.
Gentle Reminder: Tag Your Self-Negativity
Life is tough - no one should argue with that. But please be considerate of the wellbeing and mental health of your fellow roleplayers and tag your self-hate and negativity.
For many people, tumblr is a form of escapism to get away from all the stresses of their daily lives. Being forced to see their friends struggling can have a negative impact not only on their own struggles, but on their friendships as well.
It’s not that that person doesn’t feel for you, or doesn’t want to support you through your tough times. They may simply not be in a place to be able to cope with your troubles on top of their own.
Compassion fatigue is a very real thing. And much like Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, it can affect a wide range of people. In this case mostly those who fall naturally into caregiver roles and those with high empathy and compassion.
Your struggles are valid. This is by no means trying to say they’re not. But not everyone is comfortable sharing their personal struggles on tumblr, or it may literally not be safe for them to depending on their personal circumstances.
Please, it only takes a couple seconds to add a tag for this. Keep it as simple as possible for the sake of blacklists, especially given how frequently tumblr tends to act up and break many of its features.
Something as simple as negativity tw or negativity cw is enough.
PSA: Reminder To Tag
For many of us, tumblr is an escape from the stresses of everyday life. For that reason, please remember to tag your potentially triggering and/or distressing posts. There have been an increasing number of people requesting current news events to be tagged, so please remember to tag:
politics (in general) US politics US elections coronavirus / covid-19
plus anything else those you follow have listed to be tagged
