“Hey Will, uh, Mike’s not home yet, but you can come hang out.” Nancy wasn’t totally sure how to act casual around him. She didn’t want to treat him like he was different, she knew he was better now, but she still worried. She worried that the things he’d gone through weren’t things he could walk away from. she knew she couldn’t. She wanted to know how he was doing, if he was getting back to normal. “How are you?” she asked, opening the door enough for him to go through.

   ❝ Hey, Will? ❞ Mike’s voice is tentative, almost hesitant, but he can’t bring himself to swallow anything willing to come out of his mouth at that point. Worried glances had been thrown in the other boy’s direction nearly the entire night, all of which he hoped were discreet, and now that they were alone he felt he could finally act on the thoughts plaguing his mind—-thoughts which very rarely let him be even when Will wasn’t in his presence, even after things had finally calmed down, even when he knew he should’ve let it go and moved on. His next words tumble from his mouth gingerly, each syllable painting itself across his expression in genuine curiosity and concern, and laying heavily in the crease between his brows and the deep draw of his lips:   ❝ I know you... said you’re okay, but... are you? I mean, really okay? ❞
