This was certainly not what he had expected from the night. Sure he’d gotten Fionna to agree to come with him into the dark woods, he was sure she only came because he mentioned a monster, but it had gotten her to spend time with him. Away from Cake, away from PG, and away from her stupid ex. He’d taken to walking with her, an ax at his side replacing his guitar for the night, he’d wanted something nice. But Fionna wasn’t that sort of girl. She was adventurous and outgoing, she wasn’t some princess that needed to be swept off her feet. 

“Okay so this cave is up ahead...” He started to whisper towards her and paused as a large growl was heard. He blinked as he looked up, and up, and up. The large black scaled beast could only be a Nightosphere Dragon. He took a step in front of Fionna, giving off his own hiss to match the growl. The ax forgotten in his hands. 

“Oh it’s just you your highness...” The dragon’s head bend down to blink large glass looking eyes at them, the old thing was blind and Marshall finally relaxed, rolling his eyes. The dragon sniffed the air before his muzzle seemed to stretch into a large grin. “On a date I see. Oh don’t let me get in the way...” the dragon chuckled before kicking off from the ground and taking to the sky, a few trees falling down as he bumped into them. A few ‘oops’ and ‘my bad’ were heard before the dragon disappeared out of sight. Marshall sighed loudly as he reached up to run a hand through his hair. 

Well that was a waste.

He turned to look at Fionna to apologize for the mess and found that they were very close. Closer than he had been before the stupid beast had spoke up. How had that happened? Hadn’t she been beside him a moment ago? His eyes locked with hers and he could feel himself stop breathing. Oh. Oh she was beautiful. His heart was racing and it was making him dizzy. Without him telling it to, his hand reached up to gently pull the white bunny hair from her head, letting that gorgeous blonde hair to fall down her shoulders and back. 

Damn. He loved her hair so much. 

It reminded him of the sun. Of a happier time with Simone. Of a time where he wasn’t constantly in this state of darkness. When he could view the bright life of the day without worrying about burning. She was his sun. He knew that now. 

He closed his eyes as he slowly placed a hand on her cheek and leaned in slowly. Giving her all the chance to run away or punch him. When she didn’t, he moved in closer, his lips just inches away.

“You are my sun... I... I love you Fionna...” With that he closed the small gap between the two of them.
