Completing Stats books after a tournament weekend...
The Good, The Bad, The Ugly
NSOs - Non Skating Officials to those who are not sure what the fuck we’re talking about - are the peeps who see a lot, say only what’s necessary and think about that shit long after the game is over and we’re trying to kill our brain cells at the after party. Either that or we go home and ear bash our cat/dog/long suffering significant other.
Sometimes as an NSO you want to say shit, can’t help but say shit or you know you shouldn’t say shit but are going to. To all my NSO brethren, if you wear the pink or take the black, have perfected the art of resting bitch face and have forgotten how exactly you cheer for your team... This is for you.
ok, the refs too. You can come. Get in loser, we’re going shopping.
Slight resentment
I have to admit, sometimes I resent being called a 'volunteer'.
I feel like this makes me sound like I am giving up my precious time to do a favour for others.
I see officiating as a Job (an unpaid job but a job all the same.)
I say I 'work' a bout, that i'm just doing my 'job' and that with all the time it takes up, that I do a double shift if coming after work.
I'm not sure how others feel, but this is my opinion.
Respect - automatic or earned?
So I've got a very interesting comment thread going on my personal Facebook page at the moment. It's all about the lack of respect for officials. I think the general consensus is that Humans make mistakes and skaters expect officials to perfect and know their jobs 100%. But when something, anything may go wrong many benchies or skaters loose their shit! This is going to be an interesting article I'm writing!
Jammer less jam
It is possible to have 2 jammers sitting in the box at the same time. If both jammers enter the box in between jams. They both serve 10 seconds at the start of the next jam. If one jammer has been released early due to the second jammer coming in then the first jammer comes back in: jammer two serves the reduced time in its entirety, jammer 1 serves an additional minute. This is called a 'penalty pair' and can only be reduced once!
Wait a second... That doesn't look like 14! #toomanyskaters #rollerderbynso
