If only there was some sort of way for Tumblr @staff to have known about it's users 'strong opinions' before they made big changes.

What if there was some sort of... Oh, I don't know, official blog meant to report on @changes made to the site before they happened.

Some way to make a post and tell people major features beforehand and get feedback... but that would be a lot to go through.

Maybe, a voting system of some kind!

Imagine, the team at Tumblr being able to give users a choice, to communicate BEFORE CHANGES ARE MADE and recognize, "Actually they don't want this, good job we had a vote, lets not waste time implementing this."

But there's no way to do that on Tumblr... Right?

This Breaks Tumblr Culture*

The artificially lowered amounts of notes will chill some jokes:

"Investing early"

"Breaking containment"/"Don't you DARE get this to [comically large number of] notes"

"Wait why is everyone reblogging this" (Ides of March example)

The increased self-consciousness when reblogging with comments (because you'd better deserve those notes you're stealing the people before you) will kill other forms of hilarity:

No, you're thinking of Sephiroth! A Sephora is an angel ... (x)

"Sensible post" vs. "?! response" (x x x)

Those posts that just smack you with increasingly heavy frying pans (x x x)

Pointing out unfortunate (or fortunate) wording/usernames (x x x)

The fragmentation of notes will do loads more damage by decreasing visibility into activity outside your particular reblog chain. We will likely lose:

Note/reaction collections, sometimes known as peer review (x x x x)

Posts where OP makes their point via multiple self-reblogs (x x x)

"XYZ will happen if people reblog this" posts (x)

In general, posts will get less collaborative and less viral- kind of a downside for a social media platform.

Additionally, the new note format will make it harder to document Tumblr history. Deactivation and deletion can wreak particular havoc by orphaning subtrees.

in view of the latest decision by @staff to make @changes to how this site runs, i'm no longer going to be posting the things i personally create on this site. i know a lot of peeps follow me for that stuff, but you can find that sort of thing elsewhere now. and subscribe to me elsewhere. (that was the whole reason i got a tumblr actually) (came to post my creations and stayed for the atmosphere) (if i'm not posting my creations and the atmosphere is ruined, what's left?) (i might as well take my stuff elsewhere)

the potential for bad things happening is now too great, especially since i'll now no longer have any knowledge of where my posts go

this is not even about *ownership* btw, because i'm deeply aware that i am a fan in fandom, that is, i create in a universe i did not create or own. but i would at least like to have *knowledge* of what happens to what i create. not to mention having knowledge about what people are *saying* about the things i create. seeing as i can get that knowledge (and ownership) in other places, well... i guess that's where i'll be for the foreseeable future.
