It's set in the 1930s, a great estate faces ruin and - in an echo of Georgette Heyer's A Civil Contract - the heir has to choose between love and duty. His bride, Daisy, is plain and she knows he has married her only for her wealth, but she loves him. The other woman haunts their lives and your heart aches for her, but she finds solace in her garden and in the unexpected gift of a child. Day 28 of @ellie_darkins #romancereaderchallenge is crime series. I fell in love with Marcus Didius Falco years ago after hearing Lyndsey Davis give a very funny keynote at the RNA Awards Lunch at the Savoy. This week I've heard her first book in the series, The Silver Pig, for I don't know how many times on the BBC. But now we have a series about Flavia Albia the daughter Falco and Helena Justine adopted from the streets of Britannia and who has taken up her the retired Falco's job as an investigator, and coming up against a plebian aedile. Day 27 of @ellie_darkins #romancereaderchallenge - SERIES I love the Ruth Galloway series about an overweight forensic scientist and her continuing relationship with the police, and one policeman in particular. It's not exactly a romance but, like all my favourite crime series it's as much about the cast of characters as about the crimes.
