Prologue Chapter 1 Chapter 2 Chapter 3 Chapter 4
Jason followed the sounds of fear and fighting to a group of mostly young men around a group of kids and a couple young women. One dropped like a sack of bricks from the blonde's left hook, making Jason grin as he jumped into the fray. The mediocre gang was soon taken down and Jason turned to comforting and reassuring the captives. Thankfully, they'd just been kidnapped and were moving to a secondary location when the blonde and her friend jumped in to help the kids. Once everyone was safely in their homes Jason came back to the young women. The blonde accepted his offer of a ride home since her friend had already gotten home safely and it was almost midnight. Jason took a chance and asked, "Do you speak Dutch or English?"
"English. You could tell my Swahili was pretty bad, huh?" She asked with a small self-depracating smile.
"No, it was pretty good," he told her sincerely. "You live here long? And where do I drop you off?"
"Leslie Thompkins' clinic, please. I've been here a little over a year. Are you not a native, either?"
"No, I'm just passing through to pick up a couple things. Leslie Thompkins? She the doc from Gotham?"
"Yeah, she moved here to protect me, actually. I'm her assistant, learning nursing, I guess. I finished school online and by correspondence a few months ago..."
"Why'd you need protection? Running from Batman or something?" He joked, only half-kidding.
"Kinda. He didn't like me much. How do you know about Gotham?"
"Doll, Gotham is kinda famous worldwide for its crime and craziness."
"Fair. Oh, we never introduced ourselves-- I'm Stephanie Brown, or Steph."
"Nice to meet you, Steph. I'm trying to go incognito and I don't have a name settled on yet, so just call me J."
