Continuation of roads trip in a blizzard on the way to Anna’s wedding Au? I think yes.
The wedding isn’t until the evening of the next day. They have plenty of time to get from New York City to Maine. Elsa is sure of it. It’s just a little snow. The cold never bothered her anyway.
They make it out of the city, conversation falling into a rather nice normal pattern. Comfortable. Like they’ve known each other for years. It’s when they reach Massachusetts’s that it starts to get dark. And the snow is harder and everything about the trips suddenly seems less like a fun road trip with a stranger and more like mortal danger.
In this weather, and without any sunlight, there’s absolutely no way they’ll make it to Maine tonight they have to try again in the morning. So they stop. Finding a little run down motel not too far off the main highway. A little old lady at the check in counter of the lobby that’s covered in lace and crocheted cat patterns. She overs them tea and warm cookies to warm up from the storm. They ask to book two rooms.
“Oh my fears I’m afraid we’re all booked up, save for one room”
Elsa’s quite certain hers was the only car in the parking lot but her and Alarik shrug. They made it this far crammed in a car together. What’s one night sharing a room? Besides they’ll have their own bed.
And then they lug their luggage up the stairs to their room. Alarik struggles with the key at first, Elsa giggles and his heart skips a beat.
The door opens and there in the middle of the room.
“That is definitely a new development yes...”
Alarik insists on sleeping in the chair beside the window. Elsa pretends that she’s not disappointed. But they don’t go to sleep yet, they stay up talking. Elsa’s writing a book. And she’s asking for his opinion on it. She lays out papers all over the bed with drawings and layouts and outlines and random paragraphs here in there. He almost feels out of place, he’s a scientist not a fantasy writer, but Elsa insists. It’s science fantasy, she says, eyes bright and smile wide. And so he sits on the bed, trying not to encroach on her space, and he reads. And by the time he finally succumbs to sleep, head resting on one of Elsa’s notebooks as Elsa lays sprawled our beside her papers beside him, he thinks for a moment that he could fall in love with this girl.
