Continuation of roads trip in a blizzard on the way to Anna’s wedding Au? I think yes.
The wedding isn’t until the evening of the next day. They have plenty of time to get from New York City to Maine. Elsa is sure of it. It’s just a little snow. The cold never bothered her anyway.
They make it out of the city, conversation falling into a rather nice normal pattern. Comfortable. Like they’ve known each other for years. It’s when they reach Massachusetts’s that it starts to get dark. And the snow is harder and everything about the trips suddenly seems less like a fun road trip with a stranger and more like mortal danger.
In this weather, and without any sunlight, there’s absolutely no way they’ll make it to Maine tonight they have to try again in the morning. So they stop. Finding a little run down motel not too far off the main highway. A little old lady at the check in counter of the lobby that’s covered in lace and crocheted cat patterns. She overs them tea and warm cookies to warm up from the storm. They ask to book two rooms.
“Oh my fears I’m afraid we’re all booked up, save for one room”
Elsa’s quite certain hers was the only car in the parking lot but her and Alarik shrug. They made it this far crammed in a car together. What’s one night sharing a room? Besides they’ll have their own bed.
And then they lug their luggage up the stairs to their room. Alarik struggles with the key at first, Elsa giggles and his heart skips a beat.
The door opens and there in the middle of the room.
Is one singular bed.
“I—”
“Oh my...”
“Well that certainly...”
“That is definitely a new development yes...”
Alarik insists on sleeping in the chair beside the window. Elsa pretends that she’s not disappointed. But they don’t go to sleep yet, they stay up talking. Elsa’s writing a book. And she’s asking for his opinion on it. She lays out papers all over the bed with drawings and layouts and outlines and random paragraphs here in there. He almost feels out of place, he’s a scientist not a fantasy writer, but Elsa insists. It’s science fantasy, she says, eyes bright and smile wide. And so he sits on the bed, trying not to encroach on her space, and he reads. And by the time he finally succumbs to sleep, head resting on one of Elsa’s notebooks as Elsa lays sprawled our beside her papers beside him, he thinks for a moment that he could fall in love with this girl.

[Text:] Peeta - I know it's super late and I'm not even sure I should be doing this right now but I just can't sleep. I can't stop thinking about what happened before and I just... I miss you. I miss the way you make me feel secure and safe. Only you could do that. But.. it's not like that anymore, is it? Maybe someday I'll get the courage to send this to you, but for now I'll just keep it secure in my drafts.. -sent anyway.-

#6. Tongue-tied
Jemma felt like her tongue had completely swelled in her mouth as Fitz guided her to the bar. At the moment, her mind was screaming a mantra of panic as she got closer to this beautifully tall, slender, dark haired woman. How else was she supposed to describe her? After a few drinks, she was beyond hot, not to say that Jemma hadn’t noticed that sober.
"You’ve been eyeing her since you’ve gotten here. Just offer to buy her a drink," Fitz coached as he continued to push her forward.
"But, how do you even know she likes women?” Jemma retorted as she resisted Fitz pushing her forward as much as possible. “And, we just got off work! Look at me! My hair is a mess, my jeans have been eaten by hydrochloric acid—I bought this plaid shirt at a department store, Fitz! A department store!”
Her best friend rolled his eyes at her before pulling out the hair tie that she had decided would help her messy hair. Jemma yelped in response as Fitz tugged not to gently to get the hair tie out and mussed her hair.
"Look! All fixed!" he said cheerfully as he threw the hair tie over his shoulder. "You have been proffered for several drinks since you’ve gotten here. Clearly, your department store chic is not turning people away from you. Just because the woman at the bar looks like a bombshell, does not mean you can’t get her. Besides, if she isn’t into women, no harm done.”
"What do I say though?” Jemma asked in a panic. Her eyes begged him not to make her talk to the woman.
"Offer to buy her a drink or something. Jemma, how have you had more relations than I have? Honestly, I’ve been taking notes from you but seeing you right now makes me really doubt myself.”
"Hey!"
"Alright, that’s it. Off you go!"
With one last push towards the bar, Fitz disappeared further down (hopefully to watch her progress in case she needed saving). Jemma sighed to herself as she sat in the empty seat next to the woman.
"What can I get for you?"
Jemma opened her mouth at the bartender and stuttered before wordlessly lifting the drink in her hand. He looked awkwardly at her before nodding and leaving her. She glanced and saw the woman smiling to herself as she swirled the drink in her cocktail glass.
Say something Jemma. Comment on her shoes or something. Please.
She picked up her drink and took a gratuitous sip. Suddenly, the liquid slipped down the wrong pipe and Jemma found herself in a coughing fit.
The woman sitting next to her had a cheeky smile on her face as she picked up the maraschino cherry by its stem and slip it into her mouth. “You alright there?” she asked kindly.
Jemma felt a blush creep up her neck as she tried to breath in between her coughing. The embarrassment was awful. At that moment, she wanted to crawl into a hole.
All she could do was nod before hoarsely adding, “I am good thanks for asking.” Jemma found herself staring at the dark brown eyes for a couple seconds too long before looking back at her drink.
After a few moments, she realized that the other woman, was staring at her. Jemma glanced over, despite her imagination, the woman was staring at her with a bemused expression as she slipped the stem between her lips.
Jemma gaped at her like a fish out of water. All of the words escaped from her mind completely. “Hi!” she practically exclaimed, causing the bemused expression on the other woman’s face to turn into a full blown smile.
"Hello," she responded in a sultry tone as she leaned against the bar. Her mouth slightly opened as her tongue peaked out briefly.
"You’ve got a drink—I mean, I have one, that I was—" What?! Jemma physically facepalmed herself as she held back a groan. “Let me start over.”
The other woman raised her eyebrows and nodded as she waited for Jemma.
"Sorry, I must seem like a total spaz right now. Usually, I am much better at chatting women up. My success rate is astronomically high—not to say I just always go around chatting women up, but I just can’t really say no to a pretty woman or I mean Fitz, he always encourages me to…,” Jemma cursed herself mentally again for rambling and just slapped her face this time. The embarrassment was overwhelming. She was pulling out of the game.
The other woman laughed lightly.
"Look I am not going to waste anymore of your time. I just wanted to say that you are beautiful and that if you’d like to then maybe we can have sex," Jemma felt her jaw drop. Where the hell did that come from? “I did not just say that. I did—but—okay, I am just going to stop embarrassing myself.”
Jemma downed her beer quickly before turning to leave when she felt a hand on her arm stopping her. She turned and saw that it was the other woman.
She pulled the cherry stem Jemma had seen earlier from between her lips. “How about I start chatting you up instead?” she asked as she dropped the cherry stem into Jemma’s empty glass. A perfect knot rested in the middle of the stem. Jemma’s eyes widened before turning to the woman. She winked at Jemma before adding, “My name is Skye, how about I buy you another drink?”
"That would’ve been an excellent first line.”
#32. Open your eyes
"Skye, open your eyes," Jemma ordered more than asked.
"Nope, nope, nope!”
Jemma let out an exasperated sigh. “There is nothing wrong with—”
"Jemma, no. Just, I am going to back out of here and pretend like—”
"You didn’t see me naked?"
Skye’s hands shot to her sides as her shoulders curled up. Her eyes were still firmly shut. “It’s just—I am going—” She turned around quickly thinking it was where she came from but slammed into the wall.
"Skye!"
The hacker kept her eyes firmly shut as she felt Jemma’s hands fall on her upper arms. Her breath was alarmingly close.
"I’m fine, I’m fine," Skye brushed off as she tried shrugging out of Jemma’s grasp.
"Open your eyes," Jemma ordered this time.
"I am just trying to respect your naked-ness, woman!”
"Just—"
At the frustrated growl, Skye sighed and opened her eyes. “Hey! You’re not naked!” she reacted postively as she looked down at Jemma covered in her plush robe.
Jemma rolled her eyes. “While you had your eyes shut, you act as if I was going to just stand there naked the whole time.”
"I mean you were showering.”
“Honestly, Skye, you should have no qualms about seeing the female anatomy, after all you see it everyday as well on yourself.”
"Pfft, but I mean, it’s different when it’s not me. I was just trying to respect your lady-hood.”
"What are you even saying anymore?"
“Nothing! I am going to go and not see you naked anymore!” Skye jetted out of the bathroom quickly.
"Next time you do, you have to buy me dinner first!" Jemma yelled playfully after her.
