i really have this headcanon for a different tdc ending where he still kills ava bc she's trying to help thomas and the lot escape, and he'll have to stab her or something we all know how romantic stabbing is by now don't we, and it'll be in these moments that he realises his love for her (yes, janson and ava are a thing, no matter whether they have acted on it or even realised it themselves).

so it'll basically be like a jon snow/dany thing. except that he's not killing her to save someone, but he's killing her because he is too fixated on his selfish ways, on getting his way with WICKED and finding the cure.

but you can picture it as well can't you, he's stabbed her, and she's in his arms, and the shock shoots through him and his face goes white and he holds her as she falls to the ground, her face pale bc of all of the blood that's seeping out of her wound. a wretched feeling rips through janson and he does that fingers-sliding-over-the-injury and the other people's body-thing, desperate to find out that she'll be okay, that he can save her still, can make up for what he's done and he won't lose her.

but he finds the opposite, she's bleeding out fast, nearly gone already, but still that faint smile on her lips, because she knows, she knows how he feels and she's maybe glad it ends this way, with her in his arms, at least he's the one that killed her and not any cranks or the virus itself, maybe it's the best way for her to go.

and it's hitting janson, it's hitting him what he's done, he has attacked, injured and ultimately killed the love of his live. he's there, holding her body while tears start to spill from his face, he's sobbing (like ugly sobbing with snot and despair and everything) and he screams because he finally realises that it was never the cure that mattered, it was only ava, and now ava is here, wounded, injured, about to die, and IT'S ALL BECAUSE OF HIM.
