“Hand knitted beannie” (April 2016)

My late Wife, she has been my inspiration, best friend and my soulmate, my feelings for her has never change... I miss her soo much... She made me this beannie for my birthday. It took her a lot of effort and practice to make this gift and sent it to me.. we have been away to each other ever since... but we know we love each other and miss each other very much... she made this token cause she knows that its cold here in New Zealand and wants to make me warm even in the small things that she can make...

I felt happy when I saw her gift for me, now I feel that I have been loved by a person who knows how to  make me feeling warm inside and out.

Pounamu Necklace (2016)

My boyfriend at the time, now fiancé/father of my child :)

My partner gave me the necklace when I was pregnant with our son. It’s the first pounamu (green stone) I’ve ever received even though I’ve been in NZ for more than 10 years at the time. It holds a very significant meaning not just because it was from him but also for the reasons he chose the particular design.

I was/am very grateful and humbled to be given a beautiful taonga (treasure). I love it and still do. It’s amazing looking back at how much my partner and I have grown from the day he gave me the necklace to now.

Ring (2013)

For our anniversary one year Bogs [my husband] gave me a promise ring with the date we started going out and the words I love you engraved inside. I wore that ring every day, even to work at Movenpick. Of course in hospitality I had to wear disposable gloves when serving. On one of my shifts I accidentally threw it away with the glove. I was so sad! 

 The next year Bogs gave me a framed photo of us and tucked in the back was a new promise ring. Again with the date we started going out engraved inside. But this time, it had the words I COVE you on the band due to his cursive font choice Hahahah. I love it even more.

He’ll always have this special empty spot in my life. A spot I will never ever be able to repair for it will forever leave a scar no matter what.

“Mr Panda” (2014)

He was just a friend at the time but after a few years we started dating.

There wasn’t really any occasion for this present. It was more of a souvenir from his holiday but I did know that he liked me at the time so it could have been a representation of his feelings.

I felt happy receiving a gift, especially since I was the only one who got such a gift. It made me feel special. Looking back at it now it was a very cute moment.

Origami Box (2015)

It was my boyfriend (now ex) at the time who gave me this. I don't really have any ill feelings towards him now, we've actually stayed as friends since then.

I remember that he had a collection of different origamis displayed in his bedroom and I think one day I just asked if I could have it because I thought it looked cool. I think he was reluctant at first but he ended up giving it to me and it just ended up sitting on my shelf for years until I gave it to my now boyfriend because he found it cool. Funny how that works lmao.

I'm sure I was grateful when I got it. Looking back I realized that I didn't keep a lot of things that my ex-boyfriend gave me because I lost them through the years or probably just genuinely forgot that he was the one that gave it to me. I do remember that he gave me a few origami roses for other occasions so it's interesting that this is one of the only things I've kept. I have no particular special feelings about it, but it does make me think back on certain times.
