Historical Facts: "Abbaye de Royaumont was founded in 1228 by the boy king of France, Louis IX, and his formidable Regent/Mother Blanche de Castille, who was a granddaughter of Eleanor of Aquitaine..." . . "Known as Louis the Saint, the devout king led the Seventh Crusade (1248-54) to the Holy Land accompanied by his wife, Queen Margaret, where he was captured by Egyptian Mamluk warriors just as the queen was giving birth to a son in nearby Damietta.... They Royal couple was eventually ransomed for 80,000 gold coins and returned to France with their newborn son, Tristan (sorrow). . It’s worth noting that the king’s life did not lack for drama 👑⚜️👑 . Louis IX finally raised funds and launched the Eighth Crusade in 1270 where he died that same year in North Africa... two of his infant children were buried at the abbey.
