That there still has been no actual Romani Heathcliff ever yet represented on film is frankly a grave and Romaphobic disservice, but we all knew this already. Nevertheless.

in the Albanian language, or at least in the region my family is from, the g-slur is the normalized term used to refer to both Romani and Black people. if you needed any convincing that it's the same exact vein of bigotry.
this is one thing i can attest to as someone who's lived both cultures. you 100% would treat black people as an american the same way you do romani people as a european. "europeans dont see race" open your fucking eyes then.

Is the word Gypsy racist?
holy SHIT ,today i decide to look up about the word ,and IT IS IN FACT RACIST, turns out europe people use it as a slur for the romani people, this people got oppresed by their own goverment, america use this term to refer to a bagabond, and the media portray only 2 types of *g-word*: the poor and the hypersexualized (wich mean The Hunchback of Notre Dame was kinda racist)
TODAY i learn that the word *g-word* is in fact a racist word a slur and it have negattive connotations around the world
If youre not sure, chek out this article, u can easily find many articles about it actually, i just thoug of looking for it today

As an European I can’t understand how Americans...
It’s even more shocking that they use the word “gipsy” to describe him and his grand-ma all the time. I’m french, I totally see what you mean. I like the show, but this part bother me a lot.

I can’t stand it when they call him Gypsy as well and he doesn’t correct them. It is my understanding Gypsy its a slur?
Bobo: Oh, you’re a g*psy? That’s why you have a camper?
Manfred: Yeah!
OMG, the criiiiinge! I can’t believe I watched that interaction on a TV show in 2017. And in the flashbacks in Lem, Unchained, how they kept calling the grandma “that g*psy girl* was unbearable.
I’m trying to watch the show pretending they’re just a supernaturally inclined family, like the Winchesters or the Grimms, because the show makes such a circus of the Roma culture, it’s like they’re not even talking about real people. But the constant use of the G-word trows me off completely and makes me feel dirty.
When Manfred mentioned the “Old Continent” I thought he was going to mention prosecution, discrimination, the fucking Holocaust, but nope, it was just so we knew his family used to hunt demons.
With all due respect, just because there are so little Native-Americans here in Europe and they don’t exactly face discrimination here (I’m using NA as an example, because the numbers and the difference of treatment from one continent to another are comparable. Obviously, the cultures are not), if I were to make a show with a NA as a main character, even if I couldn’t find an actual NA actor to portray them, I wouldn’t make a mockery of the culture. First, because you don’t do that, to any culture, second because I’m well aware of how NAs are treated in their place of origin, which would make me extra-careful.
And what bothers me most is that the show comes across so ~woke~, with the different ethnicities, the rich female characters, the gay angel who fell for a Latino, and then makes such a horrifying blunder with the main character.
We’re talking about people who get literally peed on while everyone laughs, for crying out loud!

Sometimes Europeans will complain about Romani trashing their restaurant or bar or hotel and I just have to wonder: how were you treating them? Were you treating them like you would a white customer or were you treating them like you expected them to steal? Because if an establishment was being racist towards me, I too would leave a mess.
don't fucking say "antiz*ganist" it contains a slur
I apologize, but please understand that the word I used is not itself the racist slur, and that it was not used with malice. "Antiziganism" is among the most common of the words that I have encountered for what is otherwise known in English as anti-Romani racism, anti-Roma racism, anti-Romanyism, Romaphobia, antigypsyism, ziganophobia, or Gypsophobia. I selected "antiziganism" due to its prominent usage and because it appears analogous to the word "antisemitism." Just as I have not actually used the slur contained within "antiziganism," I do not refer to Jewish people as "Semites," whereas using the term "antisemitism" is not inappropriate.
Next time, please politely inform your message's recipient of which linguistic alternative it is that you personally find most preferable, so that you may better conduce important discussion of racism and ethnic discrimination in the future, rather than potentially stifling it outright.
