the thought occurred to romy that this hotel was even less familiar to her than she had initially thought, though she supposed when she came into the city with her family they often stayed in the very same one. always the largest and most flashy, where she occasionally ran into celebrities and the like. this one was smaller, a boutique hotel with younger clientele. she was taken aback by how dark the corridors were and the moody, modern colour scheme that contrasted the cream she was used to. she liked it, though, at least she thought she did. she couldn't think much beyond the heavy thumping of her heart in her chest as her feet carried her down the corridor anyhow.
a buzzing rang in her ears as she finally found the door number she was looking for and as she came to stand in front of it, part of her felt tempted to run. something tore at her, as if passing through this threshold was something she couldn't undo once she did it. her hand lifted despite the worry, moving almost of its own accord and in the moments between her knocking and the beat of quiet that passed after it, she turned on her heel, about to book it down the hallway... but then the door opened and romy was rooted to the spot. "hi." she choked out the greeting, as automated as ever as she stared at the person on the other side.

cool air bit at romy's cheeks as she made her way out of the building, stepping out onto the empty balcony as the rest of the world melted away. she held on tightly to the double short of vodka on ice she'd ordered at the bar before stepping away, trying to escape from the strange feelings swirling in her gut for the last hour and a half. from the moment she'd seen a certain someone, in fact. lifting the glass to her lips, she cringed as she threw her head back, making the split decision to swallow the whole thing so that she could try and drown out the memory of the eye contact they'd shared in the worst possible moment only a few weeks prior. of course, as she spun around to find somewhere to abandon the now empty glass, she once again made eye contact with the very person she'd been trying to avoid. "...hi."
