Overall Grade 6.5. Ron Dante, lead singer of The Archies ("Sugar, Sugar") lends his voice to this LP, a joint venture of Buddah Records and Marvel Comics. Guest stars include Doctor Strange, the Vulture, the Lizard, the Green Goblin, Kingpin, and even Aunt May! John Romita provided the cover artwork.

SATURDAY MATINEE MUSIC VIDEO: “Early Morning Blues & Greens” (live 2013) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2v_Aud76QR8 This song was written by Diane Hildebrand and Jack Keller, who wrote several cuts in the early Monkees album catalogue. Keller was part of the Brill Building/Don Kirshner songwriting stable in league with Howard Greenfield and Neil Sedaka. Hildebrand was more of a free spirit. In 1969 she released her own "underground pop" album with this song as the masthead. She also wrote for other artists and TV shows and released music under the name Joya Diane Skye.
Peter Tork adopted this song, usually associated with Davy Jones as a "deep cut" from The Monkees's HEADQUARTERS album. On this performance, Peter sang lead and played a bluesy guitar at a Monkees Convention in New Jersey 3-2-13. I sang harmonies and played bass in a "Monkees House Band" (i.e. Monkees road band alumni) with (the late) David "Loafy" Alexander, Rich Dart, Aviva Maloney + guitarist Damian Fanelli sitting in. We backed Micky Dolenz and Peter Tork with a night of music. Fictional musical groups in the vein of Platinum Weird are not that rare, but they rarely get to be seen beyond their gimmick. Still, there are some who manage to transcend it and achieve huge success. One such is The Archies, a virtual band based upon a popular franchise, whose most known song resembles a pastiche of every sound that was popular during the 60's. The tune's melody and its hooks make me think it would be popular with or without the connection to the TV series, I could see it as a hit for pretty much anyone. True, you cannot be absolutely sure about that, yet it shows us that the only way to go over the stunt of an unreal group is to release music that would compete with the real outfits, you shouldn't settle for good enough.
