Mr. Orr: Mr. Speaker, time and time again Ottawa flaunts its provincial biases. Even now as Alberta fights back against the federal government’s imperious and unbalanced laws harder than ever, Ottawa still mocks us.

Mr. Orr: I appeal to all artists in Alberta: make Alberta a better place. Bring about that healing that we all long for. Speak to us in ways that encourage us and lift us up.

Mr. Orr: The real abuser is Trudeau himself and his chicken Liberals, who refuse to stand for what they know is right. Any Canadian who votes for the Liberals or the NDP after this supports tyranny and the abuse of power and needs to give their head a shake. Canada is a democracy, and I will never support turning it into a socialist police state. The Canada I knew is one of freedoms. They have made it into a dirty word. Alberta will be free. I warn you that one person’s freedom gone today is yours gone tomorrow.

Mr. Orr: Yet I hear stories where artists are not treated with the respect that they deserve. In fact, even just this morning in the House, Mr. Speaker, the Member for Edmonton-Gold Bar denigrated basket weaving as if it was somehow unrespectful, unvaluable, when in fact it’s an art that’s very creative, very useful. If he hasn’t tried it, he should. I have. The NDP feign love and support for the arts, yet they just use it for their own gain.
what marlin actually said:
Mr. Schmidt: We’ve heard a lot of derogatory statements made about particular programs or imagined programs in postsecondary education institutions here from members of the government caucus. They suggest that students are a bunch of hippies who are spending their time learning macramé and basket weaving and not learning skills that will improve themselves and allow them to contribute to the betterment of our communities.

Mr. Orr: For this Prime Minister, is it democracy, or is it the Laurentian elites, who have viewed and treated Alberta with colonial arrogance for a century? Albertans want a true voice in the national Senate, not a stoolie of Liberal eastern oppression.

Mr. Orr: Agriculture and ag research are important to the lives and the economy of residents of Lacombe-Ponoka. Ag research is the exploration of improved farming methods, plant protection, and better management of resources or even efficient marketing. Agricultural research is essential to the success and innovation of ag producers and value-added processors across Alberta. The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry has made a recent policy change regarding this research. Can the minister explain the policy change, known as results-driven agriculture research, and why the ministry moved in this direction?
The Speaker: The hon. the Government House Leader.
Mr. Jason Nixon: Well, thank you, Mr. Speaker. I appreciate the question from the hon. member. The minister of agriculture is doing a great job. I didn’t hear the full question. It was so loud in here with the NDP heckling that I could not fully hear it, but I want to encourage everybody, while I wait for the supplemental, to take time to watch the Minister of Agriculture and Forestry’s great Christmas tree video on his social media.
This is lengthy for tags. I just want people to know that there was, in fact, no heckling from the NDP at this point. What happened was that none of the UCP cabinet members were paying attention (Nixon was having his customary jokey jokes with his bros on the front bench) so they didn’t hear this puffball question from their own caucus and then there was an awkward pause while they figured out who would take it. Nixon decided to blatantly lie and blame the opposition, and now it’s in Hansard. I loathe when these asshats make Hansard do their lying for them, and I really wish there could be an annotated version. Anyway, at least followers of this blog will know what really happened and how the Government House Leader routinely decides to conduct himself.

Mr. Orr: Quite frankly, I find it tiring that the NDP continually wrap themselves in some kind of mantle as if they’re the champions of health care. They aren’t, and history proves that. They really don’t tell the full truth when it comes to this story. They were not the first to bring comprehensive health care to this province or to this country, for that matter, and although they want to claim that all the time, the truth is that they weren’t. Like everything else that socialists – the left never lets the truth matter in reconstructing history or twisting a story for their own purpose. The UFA introduced comprehensive health care to Alberta long before Saskatchewan did, long before the NDP were in existence.
