Final Day
Wow
What an amazing week we had, from shadowing meetings, and exploring a little from every team at nbbj, to site visits portfolio reviews and walking around following engineers do their thing. I really wasn't expecting to get so much exposure from different fronts in so little time. I am deeply thankful for everyone at nbbj, specially Anna.
Also i want to thank my buddy ~ I haven't meet many people so devoted to their own personal growth, being constant and able to step out of your comfort zone to gain experience and a new vision of things is so scary at times and my buddy just did it for a whole week.
Perspective it's really all you need in life, isn't it.
Thanks for all the other group members that presented their experiences on their firms. You all rock ~
Thanks George for the photos :D
( also sorry for the delay, it was brought to my attention i posted this on my personal instead of the BAC acc)
Mentors are...
inspiration / hope / transformation
Sometimes during our path of students we give for granted a lot of the opportunities where we are allowed to stop, take a breather, analyze the problem and construct something new. This week showed me how good mentorship and teamwork allows you to do this even under stress and work scenarios.
We had a couple of site visits and portfolio review today, and honestly every experience after the other kept changing my POV over the architectural field. So many approaches and visions colliding and forging one project its really inspiring.
A client in need
Today we had a lot of sustainability talks. Some of them based on climate needs. Others on Public and private approaches and their own personal commitments to their goal of carbon free or zero ready.
We were also lucky enough to have a portfolio review with a lot of feedback from people who had graduated and worked at the bac.
----------------------------------------
Briefly describe a project ia today assignment.
Well the one that I can talk about is mgh.
As I started today post with a client in need, I believe this project is one that relates the clients vision and the firms approach not only on a profitable solution but a solution.
This project has as a goal to expand the capability of MGH plus providing a better experience inside and out, making it faster for worker force to navigate and stay up to date with today's health needs, without lossing connectivity or surrendering the functionality of its current extructure.
It looks like a long walk.
And it was.
Today we had a couple of site visits, one of them being in Charlestown, and the second one in downtown Boston.
Both sites being absolutely different in size, use , and stage. At the same time, while on these sites, we attended some schedule review meetings.
In between the two site visits, we had an info lunch. Where they presented on mass timber and sustainability approaches.

As for the written reflection,
Its hard to grasp as much from this aspect in only a week, specially when you don't get to experience a 100 % of the work culture and everyone is kind of making their best to mentor and guide us. But with this in mind, there is a big sense of awareness on each other as colleges, teams, and contributions. This allows them to develop solutions or at least engage in conversations in concern, interest, and other work related stuff. They not necessarily comply as they all know their roll and responsibilities and are held only by the task assigned, so there is not need for a need of influence to get people to do things.
01 Workplace (NBBJ)
N-aramore / B-ain / B-rady / J-ohanson
Being an 80 yo firm, with about 800 people working for them, NBBJ is a propose driven firm that doesn't just center on arch, but also in labs, workplaces, interiors, environment, landscape, m.planing and urbanism. Something interesting about their operational system , is that that their job does not end on the design, but on how they can serve the public in the most efficient way... including the transition period to the new workplaces.
One of the ways that they manage to accomplish all this is on the way that they fragmented themselves in studios and keep a different kind of climate for each on of them in this case Boston is mainly center on the public realm.

Our day:
We were welcome in the morning By Anna-Katelyn-Christian, and taken to a little nbbj overall introduction. Right after that we were part of a Team Meeting – with Silvia/Alan/Jessica were they were going over schedule and memos of the state of one of their projects. After that meeting we accompanied Jessica to unbox some of the materials that she got for her interiors board, as well as color confirmation for some parts of her project.
Lunch break with Anna-Katelyn-Christian at tattes
Right after lunch we joined Leo for a Digital Design Initiatives introduction presentation and discussed about software and nbbjs approach to current and other technologies.
