There’s always been this weird contradiction about you – on one hand you’re seen as this reclusive figure that never goes to celeb parties and hides from the press, and yet you’ll phone up The Richard and Judy Show or do Who wants to be a millionaire with Ronan Keating. How does that work? I quite like that. Basically, I just do whatever I want to do. I don’t like being in telly, but I always wanted to be on Who Wants to be a Millionaire. I thought it would be fun and I’ve often said so when I’m sat there watching it with Kenny. I was having dinner with Ronan, who I’ve known for a while, when I decided to do it. We both lost our mums in the same year and he was doing it for his mum’s cancer charity. So I offered to join him, and Kenny nearly choked on his steak. I thought it’s a perfect excuse and it’s not going to hurt me, either. My manager was like ‘What the fuck is he doing?’ but I knew people would see it in the right way. 🎙 Is it part of your new freedom? I can’t be bothered with being aloof anymore. I think being aloof served me very well, especially in that period when my life was a fucking nightmare, when Anselmo was ill [Feleppa, George’s late partner] and my mum died and everything. Not anymore. 🎙 You’re stilled very removed from the whole Heat celeb culture of today though. I don’t think I would have ever been part of that. I always wanted to be famous for being good at something. I wanted to be so good at something that I would be untouchable. Most stars started out as children that felt out of control or oppressed and wanted to show the world and their parents that they were worth something. There are so many people out there now that are prepared to sell their lives to make themselves famous, and that makes them completely vulnerable. Werbung // Musiktipp. Guten Morgen ihr lieben Menschen da draußen 🌺 Es wird Zeit für eine bleibend Kategorie. Musiktipp. Das neue Album von Ronan Keating "Twenty Twenty" ist zwar schon einige Tage alt, aber die Songs machen einfach Spaß. Mit Klassikern wie "Life is a Rollercoaster" oder "When you say nothing at all", denen er frischen Wind verpasst hat, sind Duette, unter anderem, mit Robbie Williams ("The big goodbye") oder Shania Twain ("Forever and Ever, Amen") vorhanden. Aber der Gute wäre nicht schon seit unfassbar langer Zeit im Geschäft, wenn es nicht auch neue Songs geben würde. "Something wonderful", "only lovers" ... Aber was rede ich hier denn? Schaut selbst vorbei. Noch fehlt mir zwar das neue Album in meiner Sammlung, aber das wird sich bald ändern. Selbstredend habe ich alle Boyzone Alben auch. 🎧 Ronan Keating startete seine Karriere 1993 mit Boyzone. Diese irische Boyband hatte Schlag auf Schlag gute Laune Songs, oder wundervolle Balladen wie "Key to my Life". Schlagzeilen machte die Band, als sich 1999 Stephen Gately geoutet hatte. Als erstes Mitglied einer Boyband. Der damals 23 jährige stand offen zu seiner Homosexualität. 🏳️‍🌈❤️ Leider verstarb er 2009 an einem Lungenödem. 😢 Doch Ronan, Keith Duffy, Shane Lynch und Michael Graham haben ihm zu ehren das Album "Brother" veröffentlicht, in dem man Steve noch einmal hört. 🦋 Boyzone zählt seit 1994 zu meinen Lieblingsbands. Ronan Keating ist und bleibt ein wundervoller Sänger mit einer traumhaften Stimme. Das Album "Twenty Twenty" ist sein 11. The day I met Bowie... I was in London shooting Ronan Keating for The Sunday Times Magazine. We finished at a cafe across the road from the TV studios where Ronan was due to perform that evening. We weren’t long in the studio when a PR person asked if I could take a photo of Ronan with David Bowie! Of course I was happy to oblige and immediately started thinking of ways I might be able to shoot them together. A moment later I was lead along with Ronan into Mr. Bowie’s dressing room, where he greeted us. There was a rather beaten up looking sofa at the back of the dressing room. I thought it might look good to have them kicked back, slouching on the sofa. They both looked to me for direction and I said ‘er... how about the sofa’ and nodded towards it. Bowie, wearing his immaculate long jacket just looked at me, then momentarily glanced down at his costume and immediately I understood that sitting was not an option. He then grinned and Ronan lent in smiling and I understood now was it and I’d better grab something quickly. Gone was any notion of making a cool photo, sofa or not... no chance to light them, this was a quick favour for the PR people. What impressed me was not only actually meeting the icon Bowie, albeit very briefly, but how effortlessly, professionally and with cool dignity he managed what was a bit of a cheesy situation. For sure he’d been there & done that a thousand times before...
